fukin gun made for 3 armed people. pistol length barrel. literally what is the space (as long as the barrel!!) in that receiver even for.

That's just how submachine guns of the period are - they're simple blowback, so they need really big and heavy bolts to work safely and at reasonable rates of fire, and those bolts need a lot of space in the receiver to travel
this will eventually be fixed by people figuring out you can just telescope a bunch of the bolt mass forward, and have it wrapped around the barrel or above it
