Pretty much most of my life I thought everyone had this (as well as vivid imagination) but now I dont think its as common. Like I can cue up any song in my head and it plays through, all the instruments relatively separated etc. A similar thing happens for writing music, I can write song after song and rarely feel like I "dont have any ideas".

Sometimes I wish that power could actually be utilized..

Yeah at work I'm always bobbing my head to music. But I don't know how to play any instrument.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

My brain is like a broken jukebox set to shuffle

This is me while walking my dog. I dunno what's gonna pop up, but it'll be different in 30 seconds.

Yes, there are many albums I don't really even have to turn on to hear. I can play Dark Side of the Moon heartbeat to heartbeat in my head. I often also have other music bouncing around built on my mood, my environment, other sounds I'm hearing, etc.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 1 points 20 hours ago

I'm that way with most tool albums.

Excellent album

There's a reason for the joke that adhd is like having 63 tabs open in your browser and one of them is playing music x)

[–] moseschrute@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

And you can’t find which tab it’s coming from, and your volume controls are broken, and you’re in class

[–] Atherel@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 days ago

And the active tab changes randomly...

My brain is more like a skipping record. I get to hear the same part of a song in an endless loop until my brain decides to move on to something else.

I fucking swear, dude, there was a period of TWO MONTHS where I had this thing stuck in my head 24/7.

Currently, I have had the main theme from Midnight Run stuck in my head for a week, which is a mood booster, so I don't mind.

Your version sound cool, tho!

I regularly get the chorus of Weiners as an earworm.

One Weiner next to another Weiner.......

[–] Nangijala@feddit.dk 3 points 2 days ago

Lol. South Park is a virus xD

[–] Scubus@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Check out George Rafferty's "Baker Street". You won't know it by the intro, but once it hits the chorus you'll recognize that beautiful saxophone solo. It's such a pleasant snipit to have floating around :)

[–] Nangijala@feddit.dk 3 points 2 days ago

Baker Street slaps.

and speaking of blowing instruments, I feel obligated to share this because it will never not be cool.

You Demon! Be happy that Midnight Run is stronger in my mind than your attempt at sabotage! 😆

[–] Zombiepirate@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Unless I'm actively listening to something I've always got music going in my head.

[–] Nemo@slrpnk.net 3 points 2 days ago

sometimes even then

[–] Jakylla@jlai.lu 3 points 2 days ago

Not musical person here, still have too much music going on in the head. Can't even sing them or play them or anything, most of the time cannot even recall them. But they are there...

where silence ? [insert monkey meme here]

I have a friend who notices when she forgets her adhd meds because the music starts playing.

When she told me this it was the first time I realized constant brain music is not a normal thing that everyone has.

[–] Pronell@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Yup, I am always playing with nonsense lyrics and scatting.

Idris Elba shows up a lot because it's a fun one to scat.

[–] Scubus@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago

Uh.. youre doing what?

[–] copymyjalopy@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'm like this too. I have to focus on the current song to get it to move on or just switch the song entirely.

[–] SuiXi3D@fedia.io 1 points 2 days ago

Even if I focus on the song in my head it’ll be there all day.

[–] Quilotoa@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I never realized the two were connected. It makes sense, though. I don't seperate the instruments but there is almost always something playing in my head. The weird thing is I find it easier to remember all the words to the song than remembering the band who played it.

[–] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

That's so funny, I'm polar opposite. I can't remember or understand lyrics for shit. I can write my own and remember them. And I can recall bands very well. There's veeeery few bands where I know the words to every song (probably like 2 bands I can do this with).

[–] Scubus@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago

It's funny, my memory for things like dates is non existent. I'm also pretty sure I have a neurological issue preventing me from recognizing people. But damn, my memory for audio i think is perfect. I can listen to a song once and remember every beat and every word for years. It's an odd thing to have thrown all my skillpoints into.

[–] Slayan@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 days ago

Yup i got a radio playing in my head all day everyday.

[–] HumbleBragger@piefed.social 4 points 2 days ago

I've always had background music in my head. It only stopped for a while when I was on vyvanse 70mg..which was way too strong for me. Now that I'm on a 30mg generic med the music came back. Sometimes I can change it but it usually stays playing a couple songs randomly..

[–] AstralPath@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 days ago

I have a perpetual mixtape running in my head. It's literally impossible to stop. I know I'm in the depths of depression when the music stops, and I'm climbing back out when it comes back.

[–] _haha_oh_wow_@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago

I'm not even a musician but I can use my brain like an MP3 player or make up my own songs for fun. I've learned to turn it off and on at will and make it play whatever I want.

This is going to trip you out OP but the way you utilize that power is by making music

[–] BierSoggyBeard@feddit.online 2 points 2 days ago

I refer to it as my Theme Music. Sit-Com energy. Maybe some stoner movie sometimes. Occasionally a darker, more serious flick. But, yes, 100% of the time, always. Except the first time I took meds.

The silence was actually terrifying.

[–] FUCKING_CUNO@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 days ago

All the time.

Presently my brain is bouncing between these two songs, but I don't understand the lyrics to either:

Nimalila - Scar zm, MDC

Ibague - Monty

[–] slackassassin@piefed.social 1 points 2 days ago

North Carolina come on and raise up take your shirt off, twist it 'round your hand, spin it like a helicopter.

[–] pHr34kY@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

I haven't heard the song "Cream" by Prince in over 30 years, but my brain DJ just started spinning it as I woke up.

[–] Goldholz@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 days ago

I defenetly have music or an underlying "theme" all the time in my head
