Mildly Interesting

This is for strictly mildly interesting material. If it's too interesting, it doesn't belong. If it's not interesting, it doesn't belong.

This is obviously an objective criteria, so the mods are always right. Or maybe mildly right? Ahh.. what do we know?

Just post some stuff and don't spam.

America: Doing everything but addressing the cause of the issue.

[–] Matty_r@programming.dev 39 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Anything except proper gun control laws I guess. Fuckin idiots.

[–] ilickfrogs@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Murican way. Stop guns with guns. Monkeys have big brains

[–] tyrant@lemmy.world 64 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Don't worry, these will be deployed against protesters soon

“You can see… the benefit is that we are letting the children take control and defend themselves… this allows us to train better AI models that have the skills to address physical adversaries in our constantly evolving threat landscape…”

[–] Gonzako@lemmy.world 31 points 3 days ago

Anything but actually promoting comunity and civility

[–] thesmokingman@programming.dev 44 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I might find this mildly interesting if the technology had been deployed during an active shooting and prevented it. As it stands, this is just a shitty advertisement for a shitty product that doesn’t address real issues and hasn’t been tested. Used to be you could pay some shadow marketers on Reddit for this kind of organic astroturfing. Kinda surprising it made its way here for free.

You may be right that it's completely useless, but it will make the inventor a fuck load of money. Turns out, it doesn't even need to work, you just need cops to pay for it.

[–] blarghly@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Clowns are far more functional and entertaining.

[–] huppakee@piefed.social 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

If you don't live there and don't know anybody who has gotten on the governments bad side, it not far less entertaining than a clown to be honest. But i agree clowns are more functional. More fair and caring also.

[–] WhyIHateTheInternet@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I do live here and have been on the bad side (not a criminal but was investigated thoroughly for being in/working in the wrong place wrong time stuff). Clowns are absolutely more functional.

[–] huppakee@piefed.social 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Best of luck with getting through the storm, I'm glad to have a pond between us tbh.

I'm glad we do too, to be honest. At least we're somewhat contained.

Can they open doors?

[–] BananaIsABerry@lemmy.zip 21 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The drone hitting the dummy, falling apart, and the dummy barely teetering back is about how I feel this will go.

[–] SamuraiBeandog@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

I find it funny that they're pretending that they won't end up strapping explosives to these things.

[–] lemonwood@lemmy.ml 8 points 2 days ago

Soon: school shooters use drones for shootings

[–] desmosthenes@lemmy.world 18 points 3 days ago

Albert Einstein famously said, "Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe."

[–] daggermoon@piefed.world 13 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Is this because the cops at schools are pussies?

Yeah I remember the group of manly men all peeing themselves in uvalde while the shooter actively shot other children. Guess rather than gaining courage this is what they came up with.

Dead kids are a gold mine for capitalism. Keep those parents terrified on a daily basis and watch the money roll on in. And all those public schools to get contracts with. It’s a soulless fuckwad’s wet dream.

[–] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 13 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Crazy that they think bird shot isn't a thing

[–] Goretantath@lemmy.world 17 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Well hey, if cops are too afraid to do their damn job, we gotta send in SOMETHING.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago

RIP Uvalde kids....

Fucking rot in hell, Uvalde cops.

[–] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Not arguing that. Just a significant flaw, besides abuse of that system.

[–] Sturgist@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

@Goretantath@lemmy.world

Wasn't the plan to heavily arm the teachers and send them in when the pigs are too chicken-shit?

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

They literally did this 4 years ago in Ohio. They legalized and encouraged teachers to bring guns to school.

It's one of the few times I was wrong. I said within 5 years we will see a teacher shoot a kid that didn't need to be shot.

I guess technically I have a year left, but so far I forgot they even did that.

[–] Sturgist@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 days ago

Thought that I was remembering that correctly.

Insane really. Though it might actually be safer for students having the teachers armed instead of having police in every school.

[–] Ilovethebomb@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Having three of them would help, if they're smart enough to attack from different directions.

[–] Wmrus@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Don't most schools have fire rated doors that close in the event of a fire or when someone pulls the fire alarm?

[–] Theoriginalthon@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

I was thinking the same, all it takes is a door and these things are useless.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Until the nerd with the thick glasses hacks them to take care of the bullying quarterback...

Capitalising on children's corpses... Unsurprising for anyone familiar with US history.

[–] mech@feddit.org 5 points 3 days ago

Now school shooters will get extra famous when the drone video inevitably leaks.

[–] PrinceOfSloth@lemmy.zip 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)
[–] fonix232@fedia.io 6 points 3 days ago

Two main topics where Americans will literally try anything else but the obvious thing to do: school shootings and measuring things.

[–] papalonian@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Well, calling in a drone strike would stop the shooting

[–] bilouba@jlai.lu 3 points 3 days ago

Can't wait for the hacking scandal...

[–] huppakee@piefed.social 2 points 3 days ago

It continues to surprise me that the country with the largest military also has the most children killed by gunfire. I mean, obviously there is a correlation there but also such an obvious solution. I'm not against flying drones in schools and also not in favour of school shootings, but it's really impressive that the military industrial complex is able to come up with new 'solutions' they can profit off. I mean the only way to stop a bad guy with a drone is to arm a good guy with a drone, right.

Good! The LAST thing we Want in Schools is for Students to have a Safe and Comfortable learning Environment!
