World News
A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF OCTOBER 19 2025
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

Well at least Spain has the balls to stand for humanity. My country is being a 'lil bitch about it again. Bloody politicians that are spineless.
I'm from Germany, not much better here 😕
Sie können echt machen was sie wollen und sobald wir nicht absolut hinter ihnen stehen sind wir Antisemiten. Das muss aufhören.
All of Europe is pretty bad on the global stage right now, but Germany is the worst.
Love to Germany from Sweden
Germany wanting to have the strongest army in Europe and investing more money into the military than it ever has since Nazi Germany is totally not something we should worry about
What I worry about is that Germany has a pathetic military doctrine and no comprehensive strategy for sustaining its economy beyond "rules-based world order, multilateral cooperation"
Honestly, that's not what I worry about at all. I'm worried about the military buildup that is happening (not just in Germany). Nobody should have to die to protect state interests.
I get it. You're not wrong. The problem is that there are violent people out there who will take advantage of and victimize entire cities, countries or civilizations if they can. If not another state, then a straight up mercenary army of the rich.
The fact that the entire world is suddenly feeling the need to arm themselves is of course super disturbing, counter-productive and is coming at the worst time ever given that all of this effort needs to go into climate disaster mitigations. And yet, if one party feels they can just pick up territory with their superior capacity for violence, the rest of us are kind of forced to try to deter that.

The thing is, I disagree with that. This state is not something I think is worth defending with my life. I'd rather live under Putin than die on the front lines.
I'm not saying I'm right here, but I used to feel that way too. I think what changed for me was when ISIL started running amok in Iraq, knowing that this was the plan for Iran as well. Now my family home, and my family, is getting bombed by an empire in its death throes.
I don't want to die on the front lines and I certainly don't want to kill anyone, but I will oppose with my life and my body those who victimize others, if I must.
Ah. The anti-Semitic card.
Look here. Being off an opposing opinion with the government of Israel, has nothing to do with opposing Jewism.
It is the same with disliking the CCP and liking the Chinese. I care for the people but not for their arsehole countries / governments.
Ah. The anti-Semitic card.
They could use some new cards, they've worn that one out.
They might as well get that card glued to the table with how often they try to play it
They've playing the "few weeks before Iran has nukes" card for 30 years and in the end someone took the bait. You just need the right kind of player at the table and that worn out card still can win the game.
Good. Now expel the US ambassador and Iran will allow Spanish oil through the Straits of Hormuz
Iran doesn't actually have the capacity to do that. They're trying to mine the waters and they have no naval power to secure safe passage. The reality is that even if a country did comply with Iran's demands, there's a very good chance that the ship will get hit anyway by some rogue regional commander or some random mine.
Keep in mind, previous administrations were well aware of this scenario which is why they didn't whack the mullah regime in this way even though they could've easily done it. The current situation can only be achieved by an idiot who lacks the ability to understand the consequences of their actions like Trump.

Or by someone who couldn't care less, because his rich buddies can now charge exorbinant prices and also has a new source for oil in Venezuela, which they can also sell for exorbitant prices.
All that olive oil has to go somewhere.
Spain has conscience
Just like when there was a big flu about 100 years ago. The world made fun of them for taking action and decided to name the flu after them.
Once enough countries stop cooperating with these animals, the "antisemitic" (these people are just European settlers, lol) narratives will finally die.
Hopefully you're just naive/propagandised, Mr/Miss mod, and not just an evil little Zionist.
Noone expects the Spanish Inquisition!
