I've biked in enough New England states where even if there was a dedicated bike lane I would still go to a trail because people cannot drive for shit. The amount of people I wave to when walking that don't see me because they are head down looking at a cell phone is probably 4/5.

Lady, there's a car sized free space on your front lawn.

People are very self centered.

It's like they are conservatives or something.

No can't be. She has pink hair, so she's a transgender liberal antifa commie criminal. She probably eats cats.

Don't forget she's a godless baby killer too. πŸ™ƒ

Mixing squishy people and big steel trucks will definitely impact one group a lot more than the other; and in ways not fixed by a painted line.

Good luck.

I can't remember if I've seen a house without a garage and/or driveway.

That area of Alexandria needs more bike lanes not less

From 0:55 in the video, the familiar ~~bikers' lives matter~~ all lives matter πŸ™„

Hammers are cheaper than windows

I was actually going to jump on their side: that area is still very car centric and you need to be able to handle that while taking steps toward safe cycling and walkability. …… then the video was showing a mostly empty street where many of the houses had driveways, so no. They can suck it up and park in their driveway or around the corner like the rest of us

Or heck, that street is really wide. We have narrower streets with both a protected bike lane and parking

The church should have accomodations though, even if it means closing part of the bike lane sundays

[–] terabyterex@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

it ver clearly shows sections where no one has a driveway.

Yes, but bikes > religion.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

You don’t have to be religious to support people who are, just like you don’t have to cycle to support people who do

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works -1 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

I don’t like this headline. I'm all for more cycling and fewer cars, but in many places cars are a necessity, and according to the video, this bike lane would prevent a potentially large number of people from parking near their homes. To be fair, I know nothing about this area, or this state, and I got all my information from watching the video.

Glancing at that still in the thumbnail, it also looks like she doesn't have a driveway.

I don't know if that'd be the situation that the woman has, but I've been in old neighborhoods in the US with housing built before about WW2 or so, and they don't have off-street parking, as they predate the automobile becoming very common.
