For those who don't understand, in a weird coincidence, both Donald Trump and Mikhail Gorbachev have been Pizza Hut spokesmen that starred in Pizza Hut tv ads in their respective markets.

I’m gonna start a conspiracy that Pizza Hut runs the world.

[–] gabbath@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

We can call it Pizzaga-- wait, no nevermind.

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I have an opposing theory that Pizza Hut is a symptom of late stage capitalistic cancer. In the late 80s the capitalistic process of consolidating power in the Soviet Union into the new oligarchy had nearly run its course and the USSR dissolved not long after Pizza Hut showed up on the scene.

Here, in the homeland of Pizza Hut, Pizza Hut has shifted from being a casual sit down pizza chain, to a casual pizza buffet chain, to an exclusively carry out fast food pizza chain. The uniqueness of the architecture has been lost just as architectural drive in the USSR shifted over time from Construcivist to Stalinist to Brutalist to Soviet modernist (which is commonly critiqued for lacking personality in comparison to prior eras).

Here in the states we are currently seeing all of our architecture lose personality. Suburban developments are the same house over and over again, often not constructed to code. Car oriented developments are just the same strip mall or basic big box store plopped all over the place with no design considerations given to the surrounding landscape. Even our shitty pizza joints have lost what little personality they once had, now becoming relegated to existing within strip malls next to illusion of choice grocery stores.

Suburban developments are the same house over

Nihil novi. It has been true since at least 1960's. There's even song about it from the 60s:

Little boxes on the hillside,

Little boxes all the same...

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 1 points 1 day ago

for sure! you can still find little post war housrnd developments where every house the same. what i was trying to drive out is its accelerated and the developments have gotten bigger and less smartly planned

Gorbachev was a way nicer person and smarter. The other is an annoying orange.

[–] FukOui@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

You're doing the annoying orange an injustice. At least, the annoying orange (cartoon) didn't fuck kids

[–] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Children had to prostitute themselves for food because of that man. Nice person my fucking ass. I wish hell was real. His disposition was more pleasant than Trump but the choices he made were often just as devastating.

[–] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I'm sure Gorbachev was far from perfect, but nobody foresaw how bad the collapse of the Soviet Union would have been, or that it would have collapsed at all. The "shock therapy" that happened post-Soviet Union was long after he's gone.

[–] plyth@feddit.org 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

nobody foresaw how bad the collapse of the Soviet Union would have been

Nobody but communist theory, and the people who pushed for it.

It was naked capitalism and it's what the world is going to experience once China and Russia are gone.

[–] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The Soviet Union wasn't capitalist when it collapsed, and the current Russia isn't communist. China is communist but in name only.

[–] plyth@feddit.org 1 points 1 day ago

What was bad about the collapse? The dissolution of the USSR itself? I had assumed it was the economic struggle during and after the transition to capitalism.

If I’m sent to 1965, I’m just going rogue.

I move to some backwater village, get some blue collar job, buy a house for $20.000 and put the rest of the money in suspiciously good stock picks.

[–] oppy1984 1 points 1 day ago

Pretty much my thoughts, but I would also memorize some lottery numbers, or write them down if it's not terminator time travel and I can take items with me.

I would hope to take someone with me though, it would be fun to sit around and reminisce about the future, "hey remember when this is going to happen?"

[–] Rusty@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 day ago

It is a great plan, if you happen to be white and male and live in North America or West Europe.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 18 points 2 days ago (2 children)

You do that, I'm gonna move down a hit list and see how badly I ratfuck history.

[–] ameancow@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

"Sorry Mr Musk, that company name was ALSO taken already, the owner says he has no desire to sell it."

[–] gabbath@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Take up everything with "X" in the name to really piss him off.

[–] vzqq@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

A noble goal. Hit me up when you’re out near me in the sticks, we can grill some burgers and talk about the bad days.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The hit list is rather excessive but I'd have the secondary goal of slapping my grandfather upside the head in the 80s and teaching him the glories of PPE and how it's effective against lung cancer.

[–] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Yeah, if time travel was real, I probably wouldnt do some big act to prevent horrible people from being born/growing up..

probably just go back and hug my grandfather one last time.

Funny thing is that I never met my grandfather, he died when my mom was still young. But I figure that I'd have to offset whatever damage id do by exterminating my father's family.

Really thought we were going to blame Papa John’s.

Mikhail Gorbachev, in a Pizza Hut commercial

[–] SreudianFlip@sh.itjust.works 31 points 2 days ago (2 children)

For those who don't understand, this is a Star Trek meme, about an episode where Picard has to learn to communicate with a people who only speak in memes, and the clanker universal translator can't handle it.

You can't fool me, it's memes all the way down.

Krasnov, when the wall fell.

[–] plyth@feddit.org 1 points 1 day ago

Gorbachev and Putin don't stand on the same side of history. If Trump is team Pizza Hut then he can't be Putin's Krasnov.

[–] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 12 points 2 days ago

Gonna put this in the post body, thanks

[–] Not_mikey@lemmy.dbzer0.com 20 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Wow trump made that commercial while he was still married to his second wife. So he made a national TV ad winking to the idea of him cheating on his second wife with his first wife.

Everyday I get to learn a new way our president is the worst piece of shit imaginable, fun times...

[–] FatVegan@leminal.space 8 points 2 days ago

Somehow the worst piece of shit imaginable is still good enough to be the leader of the united States twice. Or more, who knows.

[–] BeardedGingerWonder@feddit.uk 6 points 2 days ago

Strong Demolition Man vibes to this.

[–] Hotstillnasty@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago (3 children)

I'm missing the pizza connection. Can u fill in the gap for me?

This sounds more like it should be a line from Spaceballs than real life.
