The average evangelical is a nihilist deep down.

Try explaining to one of them climate change or how air pollution leads to hundreds of thousands of preventable deaths in the US alone and they will give you a blank smile and say “oh well, we had a good run and we all gotta go sometime.”

While the original post is satirical, it's still quite close to the truth, e.g. this speech from 2004:

CALLER: I'd like to know how you handle your stress.

TRUMP: I try and tell myself it doesn't matter. Nothing matters. If you tell yourself it doesn't matter, like you do shows, you do this, you do that and then you have earthquakes in India where 400,000 people get killed. Honestly, it doesn't matter. That's how I handle stress.
