I'm unironically opening up every conversation IRL with "Do you condemn the US and Israel?" after that shit. No excuses.

Israel's actions will cause antisemitism as long as hasbara conflates Israel with Judaism

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 20 points 3 days ago

and they want antisemitism to rise and spread. Some people have completely abandoned any concern for this despite the fact that the zionists have explained their plan, said it helps them, and have been caught deliberately stoking it even on days when the entity forgets to commit atrocities.

If Aaron Mate's tweet is meant to be the slop here, commenters should know that he is mocking the person he's quote tweeting. He hates "Israel" and AFAIK he's been a committed anti-zionist activist his whole adult life.

While a student, Maté was vice president of the pro-Palestinian student union at Concordia University in Montreal and he was the main subject of the National Film Board of Canada documentary Discordia.[18][19] The film depicts Maté's campus activism in support of the Palestinian cause and the effect it has on his relationship with the student union and his Palestinian friends. He received death threats from fellow Jews due to his condemnation of Israel's treatment of Palestinians.[20][18] Maté was arrested during the Concordia University Netanyahu riot on 9 September 2002, after stepping between protesters and police,[21] for which he faced expulsion.[22]

On September 9, 2002, a riot broke out at the Sir George Williams Campus of Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec, in anticipation of a visit from former Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The visit, to be held at noon in the Henry F. Hall Building, was cancelled after pro-Palestinian students entered the building in which Netanyahu's speech was being held by breaking a glass window.[1][2] Netanyahu had been invited by the Jewish student organization Hillel.[1] Several hundred demonstrators blocked the event's attendees from entering the building.[3]

The incident took place amidst the Second Intifada, which had begun two years earlier, marking a period of increased violence in the Israeli–Palestinian conflict until 2005.

waow-based

Additionally, His father Gabor Mate is an outspoken anti-zionist Holocaust survivor and his brother Daniel is a co-host of the Bad Hasbara podcast. As far as I can tell, the entire family are really active anti-zionists.

The Mate's all strike me as very decent humans

I'm gonna need a break or something. Its like 65% of the world consists of uncaring, psychopathic assholes. How the fuck did we get here? Its so fucking horrific. Every day I wish I could change our entire existence, and every day I am met with more suffering.

[–] sexywheat@hexbear.net 21 points 3 days ago (1 children)

For what it's worth I'm pretty sure this Aaron Mate bloke is taking the piss here (he's a journalist for the Grey Zone).

But ofc, reality has become so twisted that it's impossible to tell what's satire and what's not these days, especially when it comes to the zionazis.

[–] LeninWeave@hexbear.net 21 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Yes, he's a well known anti-zionist. He's being sarcastic here.

What gives me some hope is that the loud minority of unabashed psychos are just that - a minority. Catch me in like 30 min from now when I swing back to, "nuke the west it's not salvageable".

How the fuck did we get here?

(Guys, no one tell him we've been here the whole time)

I realized the best way to understand Israel and general Western view of the global South is to realize they don't see the people in the global South as people, they see the people in the global South as violent savages from an Indiana Jones movie; the people in the global South could have better cities than anything we do (and there's a lot of places that absolutely do), but it's become important culturally to believe the global South is nothing but violent savages who must be treated that way. We're not supposed to trust the honesty of the people from the global South, the people from global South don't love life like we do, they don't love their families like we do (even though our military murder their families because they know it'll cause their people anguish), they're not smart and they're barely self aware like we are.

Conservatives naturally believe in the ridiculous IQ statistic that's been slathered over so many countries in the global South (even though the way the statistics were GENERATED (they weren't measured, they were calculated) is ridiculous and questionable), and libs AT BEST will be like "No.....that's not....true.....that's racist....." while taking pride in their own intellect and still believing those statistics even though they may speak out against them. The supposed IQ of so many African countries is 60, which is literally impossible because at 60 you would literally struggle to clothe yourself, let alone have any kind of society. Brings to mind when the British assaulted the Benin empire and found their artifacts, they had to tell themselves the Benin hadn't made them themselves because that would mean they were a complex people with a complex society.

Remember, eugenics itself OUTSIDE of Israel is still within living memory, in the case of Israel it was only stopped in the last....what, ten years? Apparently the last person they sterilized was a black woman post 2010s. Violent colonialism stopped because it wasn't feasible or because colonists were violently removed, but the view among most people is still that it stopped because of the benevolence of the West.

I have, but it doesn't shake the dread, y'know? This fever pitch has been building in me, and many others, for decades now. There is a point when it is overwhelming.

Keep working comrade. The only way out is through.

That picture is perfect, that's Ezra with all of his gears turning about to churn out a very profound analysis that nobody will understand except for him

[–] ashestoashes@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 3 days ago

I've only just realized they're different people and the NYT hasn't been having the H3H3 guy on to write guest articles

[–] PKMKII@hexbear.net 7 points 3 days ago

So is Ezra arguing that Israel and America are contributing to antisemitism?

[–] theuniqueone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 days ago

Until I'm shown proof those kids were Zionists who supported the reinstatement of the Shah I'm not obligated to "perform empathy". /s

[–] Babalugats@feddit.uk 3 points 3 days ago

I think it's a whole tongue-in-cheek humour based on the lobbying by Israel which by design calls everything anti-semitic and tries to force condemning it once it's called out, by distancing themselves from the others etc.
