Any real heroes wanna throw out some suggestions for what to download?

I got my classic beloved Gameboy Advance games I sometimes play on my phone already, (Pokemon's, Golden Sun, Final Fantasy, etc.) but I've wanted to get into doing some emulation on my Steamdeck and have just put it off for almost too long it seems.

The full PC Engine romset doesn't take up that much space and is great especially if you're into shmups. PC Engine CD games obviously take up a lot more space, but you should at least get Gate of Thunder, Lords of Thunder, Ginga Fukei Densetsu Sapphire, Castlevania: Rondo of Blood and Ys Book I & II. You need a BIOS file (syscard3.pce) too, which is probably somewhere on Myrient but easy enough to find online.

If Myrient has a full MAME romset, download that too and you'll have basically most of the best arcade games ever made. I'm assuming you've already planned on downloading all the 8 and 16-bit console games, so those probably don't need to be mentioned.

This is great, thanks for the info! I'm going to look into downloading the full PC Engine romset once I get off work.

Thank you for the pc engine recs!

They do have a mame set, in all three formats to boot. They also have a technoparrot set which has new arcade games, including like MariokartDX. Those are kinda hard to find so I'd definitely download any of those you care about.

Also like to add the ds/3ds to that list, if you filter for USA or Europe roms they aren't too big (50/250gb) and some ds games are nice to play on your phone. It's also just hard to get fullsets.

Yeah, the TeknoParrot stuff is definitely worth downloading, there's a bunch of games in there that have no home versions. I was actually looking for Senjin Aleste forever until it one day showed up on Myrient with all the other TeknoParrot games.

Fuck oooaaaaaaauhhh

Asking people to pay for ROMs continues to be the most cringy thing to do. (referring to the download manager thing just in case)

[–] gramxi@hexbear.net 17 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

This is honestly devastating. They're such an amazing source for CHD compressed roms.

freeman-true but it's not like downloading the ISOs and compressing them into CHD takes long either.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAA FUUUUUUUCCCCCKKKKK I'M GONNA HAVE TO GO BACK TO ARCHIVE.ORG WITH ITS DOGSHIT DOWNLOAD SPEEDS FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK

[–] Liketearsinrain@lemmy.ml 16 points 19 hours ago

It is possible to have fast speeds on archive.org, use a download manager like aria2. https://aria2.github.io/

You need to start the download on the web, right click copy download link (in the browser download list not the link to state download) and use that for aria2 and cancel the web browser download.

aria2c.exe -x8 ""

I donate to web archive so I don't feel too bad about it, also there are probably more user friendly download managers but I don't know any I can recommend.

Shame, they were my go-to for roms. Surprised it wasn't a dmca shutdown.

It's kinda more sad and also a really telling state of the world right now where the community stealing the work was the thing that killed it

It was inevitable to end at some point given the impossible economics of altruism in a capitalist society. I don't even blame people for overloading the system with download managers.

In a socialist country, the entire corpus of software would be available to every citizen at any point at zero charge, something capitalists hate which are also called public libraries.
