Call me crazy but I think it wasn't about the mustard.

[–] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 16 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Is it weird that I actually didn't see the mustard thing or the suit? My family had the Hannity hate channel on 24-7 but most of what I absorbed was when operation 2fast2furious happened and then the cash for clunkers program. Oh and they were big mad about the Nobel award. Not the drone strikes though, Fox didn't really seem to mind that

[–] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

operation 2fast2furious

And let me guess, it was all Obama's fault, no mention that it was started under dubya?

[–] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Don't know, don't really care. The dude ran with a lot of things dubya started, I think I have less opinions about cartels and where they get guns from then I do about done warfare.

Maybe I should examine that but I'm kind of on some other shit than Obama these days?

[–] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Oh, right there with you, it was one of many programs he continued that absolutely should have been stopped, much like the drone program. My comment was more aimed at the fact that the right cared about the gun running scandal (because they could lie by omission and blame Obama for it), but other items they couldn't be blamed on Obama so they kept their mouths shut about it.

What a fucking sad state of affairs that Obama is one of the best presidents of my lifetime, but at this point the bar is low enough that subway tunnels have no worries about ever coming in under it. But considering the only other 2 Democrat administrations in my lifetime caused a rightward shift that wasn't mainly based on racism (Clinton's third way, Biden doing fuck all about the new ANP), that says so fucking little. But, finding any reason to push America towards Daddy Prescott's vision from back in the early-mid 1900s is all they're about.

[–] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 month ago

Ooh. Yeah that probably was their angle.

Well said, I do have a lot of baggage with the dude. But my only other points of reference are G-dubs and the Clintons so by comparison (and nobody else really stands for comparison) he is for sure the best we had. Kind of sucks waking up to the reality that our ideas of benevolent leaders are tied to an idea of America that has never existed in our lifetime.

Don't forget the tan suit!

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 25 points 1 month ago (2 children)
[–] jack_of_sandwich@lemmy.sdf.org 15 points 1 month ago

Yeah, what kind of a President would wear a tan suit?

[–] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 11 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

That's so wild. Never actually saw it before, I only knew about it from memes. I mean, dear gawd it's a literal war crime

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I dunno I think he looks pretty sharp

[–] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 month ago

My only suit is tan corduroy so I can't actually hate but, you know. oBAmuH

[–] wurstgulasch3000@feddit.org 11 points 1 month ago (2 children)

As a European I still don't know what that was about

[–] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

He was black, and dared to be president. The mustard/tan suit shit was just the racist right finding things to be upset about.

Also @Zagorath@aussie.zone, there's your basic answer.

[–] Zagorath@aussie.zone 3 points 1 month ago

As an Aussie, ditto tbh.

[–] SanctimoniousApe@lemmings.world 4 points 1 month ago

It's high treason if he ate mustard while wearing the tan suit.

[–] FistingEnthusiast@lemmy.world 17 points 1 month ago (1 children)

If they didn't have double standards, they'd have no standards at all

[–] thlibos@thelemmy.club 1 points 1 month ago

"Gloom, despair, and agony on them....wooooah!"

[–] rayyy@piefed.social 17 points 1 month ago (1 children)

All that tan suit outrage bullshit is for the mentally discombobulated right wingers and it works surprisingly well.

[–] jack_of_sandwich@lemmy.sdf.org 5 points 1 month ago

They're jealous that Obama looked better in a tan suit than Reagan did

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Remember the coffee cup salute?

Years later Trump would literally salute North Korean soldiers and the right couldn't give a shit.

[–] lobut@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 month ago

The "terrorist fist jab" as well ....

Trump supporters have no morals.

[–] Anbalsilfer@lemmy.ml 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

They have values. Or, more specifically, they have one value. Power.

[–] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

And it tends to be a specific kind of power.... white power

[–] Tiger666@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 month ago

TAN SUIT FIASCO JOINS THE CHAT.

[–] ZimRoxo@piefed.social 5 points 1 month ago

Well how was the DOW when he ate the mustard, huh?

[–] RedGreenBlue@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Winning is what is important to those people.

[–] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 5 points 1 month ago

That's the entire philosophy. You should hear the way they talk about people who they fundamentally agree with but didn't succeed at their goals. Worse than actual political enemies

[–] Encephalotrocity@feddit.online 3 points 1 month ago

Release the Trump Files feat. Epstein!

[–] LodeMike@lemmy.today 3 points 1 month ago (2 children)

What's this about mustard?

[–] Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 1 month ago

Obama's presidency had only a few controversies so conservative media had to make up really stupid ones in order to keep their viewers angry at the Democrat in the White House. He was seen eating a hot dog with Dijon mustard and Fox News spent weeks rambling about how elitist he was, not eating regular mustard like good honest Americans. They also went ape shit over him wearing a tan suit once.

[–] Soulg@ani.social 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

He asked for Dijon mustard on a burger once and they tried to turn that into an elitism thing

[–] LodeMike@lemmy.today 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] Soulg@ani.social 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It's exactly as stupid as it sounds

[–] LodeMike@lemmy.today 1 points 1 month ago
[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

rrrrRRRRReeEEEe HE PUT HIS FEET ON THE DESK!!!!!!!

... As did literally every other President at at least one point, in the prior 25 years, at least.

Actual tabloid bullshit, even back when 'tabloid bullshit' was discernably different than 'content'.

[–] Daft_ish@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 month ago

Those are fake because if they were real it would be bad for them. Protecting ego is more important.

[–] jack_of_sandwich@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 1 month ago

The thought of Ketchup sickens me. No matter what you put it on.

But I don't hold that against Trump, he's human garbage for so many other reasons

[–] kambusha@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] red_tomato@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Worse! He ate Dijon mustard!
