Although Means graduated from Stanford School of Medicine, she did not complete her head and neck surgical residency at Oregon Health and Science University, is not board-certified, and does not have an active medical license. Her scientific experience is mainly focused around her work as a wellness influencer, and a leader within the Make America Healthy Again (Maha) space – which has become the key pillar of the Trump administration’s health policy under Robert F Kennedy Jr.

Means declined to give a simple yes-or-no answer when the committee chair, Republican senator Bill Cassidy, pressed her on whether, as surgeon general, she would encourage parents to vaccinate their children with routine shots such as the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine.

This is a huge red flag. She fucked up and killed someone in residency.

Don't worry, Maine's senator will look grumpy and then vote yes, fucking over millions of people and destroying our healthcare system (even more). But Maine will re-elect their Senator anyway because... They love sending their best, I guess?

Maine loves to be moderate about their sanity and empathy, Susan Collins is no exception!

Graham Platner gives me some hope though.

@supersquirrel

So assuming a 'surgeon general' is some sort of political / medical position, would it not be better to have someone qualified and experienced in Medicine?

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 day ago

did you see the last clown they appointed?

Define better... Then better for who?

[–] zleap@techhub.social 1 points 1 day ago

@Lemming6969

One definition of better from:
The GNU version of the Collaborative International Dictionary of English :
Better Advantage, superiority, or victory; -- usually with of.

If a person is qualified in medicine are they not able to make decisions based on current medical science and evidence? Therefore may be improved outcomes for patience.

This post seems to be subject to decision by the senate, so I am guessing they are going to ask questions to ensure this person is suitable for the job.

Sugeon General
The U.S. Surgeon General is the Nation’s Doctor, providing Americans with the best scientific information available on how to improve their health and reduce the risk of illness and injury. The Surgeon General oversees the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) Commissioned Corps, an elite group of over 6,000 uniformed officers who are public health professionals. The USPHS mission is to protect, promote, and advance the health of our nation.

Another highly qualified individual. At least this one has a degree in the field.

Going through med school but then not completing residency or boards screams silver spoon.... I've seen a lot of idiots get through school and come out idiots on the other side.
