Most of the cats I have had would actually comfort me, but one of the two I have now seems to mistake laughter for crying, nonresponse to cry, concerned meows and cuddles for laughs. She kinda dumb, she orange.
Haven't cried around the ~1yr old cat yet, no clue how she'll react, but she doesn't when I laugh so that's good.
she's a little confused but she got the spirit
She's such a good cat, love that little idiot.
My old lady cat is very sensitive to my emotional state. If I am having a really bad depressive episode she needs to be in my lap and if that is not helping she pushes her nose under my chin or chews on my stubble.
If I am destructively ruminating she gets upset and bats at my feet and pulls on my pants cuff with her claws while angrily meowing.
One of mine will identify a panic attack before it happens and relentlessly headbutt the person. She will also babysit someone sick in bed. It's wild because she is the least well adjusted cat we have, but she is like a nurse sometimes.
my dog will run up into my office from her perch at the living room window if I so much as inhale in a slightly stressed manner
she will then stare at me until I let her jump into my lap, and I have to convince her to leave me alone so I can continue working
My cat cuddles me when I'm sad. If any cat were born to be a support Kitty, it's my Panda

Such a boop-able face!
That's a bold face lie. Our old cat comes running if she hears one of us crying or even coughing. She is genuinely worried and stays around till we are back to normal.
When I'm depressed in bed, it never takes more than a minute for my cat to lie down on my chest and start to purr.
Or rub her face against mine.
idk, cats are really sweet if you understand how they show affection. Though on this particular note, my grumpy old man of a cat taught himself to basically be an anxiety/panic attack service animal. He started doing it years ago when I was really struggling with anxiety and depression. But now if he hears someone, even one of the little kids crying or even gets the vibe one of us in the house is about to have an anxiety/panic attack he will come up to us, rub up on us, and start trying to like burrow his way into whatever ball we're curled up in to get into our faces and try to get us to pet him. Then he'll just sit there demanding pets from us until whatever attack we are having subsides and he'll trot off.
Little goofball would even guard the twins swings. The second one of the swings stopped or one of them started crying he'd run over and meow at one of us and lead us to the problem. And oh the beating he gave to one of the other cats the one time he dared to hiss at one of those babies for crying. I hadn't even had the chance to stand up yet and that old man practically flew across the room and have 7 or 8 loud paw slaps to the offender's face and the most threatening yowl I'd ever heard come out of him. The other cat was fine too, no serious harm to anything but his pride. It was very much a "WTF are you doing? Those are babies! GTFO before I really hurt you," kind of thing.
I've never had a cat like that. They would check up on me even for just being motionless for too long (like a change in behaviour to the normal).
I used to live with two cats. One would always be there when I was sad but would leave if I started crying, the other didn't seem to care much if I was low grade sad but would always show up if I was crying. There'd be a trading of the cats in the doorway whenever I migrated from small sad to big sad
My cat is usually on my wife's belly trying to comfort her at the first sign she's upset. If she can't get to her belly to calm her down, she paces around her yowling incessantly until she can.
I don't think I'll ever meet another cat as empathetic as her, tbh.

The gods must be crazy.
That's not my cats. They both know when someone is hurting emotionally and come over to sit on our lap and comfort us. Not all cats are mean and aloof.
Cats are the challenge you take on after the dogs have given you the confidence to try.
My cat snuggles with my wife when she's sick. Not with me though π
Only somewhat true. Many cats are certainly like this, and most aren't as obsequious about it as dogs, but I've had a few that will come over when they sense someone's upset.
Literally. Since I got too disabled to feed the cat she ignores me. She comes to everyone else now and then to snuggle. But not to me.
This is one reason why I feel it's necessary to 'torture' my cat with pettins sometimes. I feed her, she can deal with a bit of unsolicited pettins sometimes. Especially because she purrs and only tries to get away some of the time. :)
Some cats are like this. I'd like to add a speech bubble to the last frame: "You may be leaking but I still trust you fully, I know you're safe and reliable. You always have my back, see?"
nah, cat used to swiftly come to the rescue whenever i was feeling down.
But then they cuddle you. Still judge you, but understand that you need support.
I was really sick recently and had a persistent bloody nose after a really bad coughing spell. I decided Iβd head out to the ER at around midnight. I stepped out of the bathroom and my cat was sitting there with the most horrified look on his face staring back at me. He had this strange meow Iβd not heard before.
I canβt be sure, but I think he was concerned for me. Iβm his entire world and there whenever he cries out. It felt nice to have him since I donβt really have anyone here with me but I felt sorry for him not knowing whatβs going on and seeing me bleeding and leaving the house at such a late time of day without being able to take time to pet him and tell him Iβd be back like I normally do. Thankfully it wasnβt as major as I thought and I was back in a few hours and was so glad to see him and so heβd know Iβm okay.
Not really my experience with cats (I have 2 cats and 2 dogs) Maybe if you don't have a strong.conection with your pets they'll be like this, but dogs will too probably
