anxietyI know that there are bigger things going on atm and I'm being solipsist but anxiety chest pain is annoying. I am fine but my body doesn't think so. It's been three weeks. I just want to be able to sleep 😭 done the box breathing, the five senses thing, the just sitting with it thing, music, running, movies, and my body's still saying danger and waking me up in the middle of the night. The last time I felt like this was when I was waiting on marks for a uni subject that I was going to fail, and before that, it was before a lesson I had to teach. Also happens when I have to wake up early. I took my sleep tracker off which I think has helped.

I'm trying to tell myself that I'm not in immediate danger, but I'm at my wit's end and probably have the struggle switch on. Thank goodness I have a psych appointment next week. I've done so much work on myself and my mindset over the past couple of years, but I feel like I'm back to square one. I know I'm not though, I just have to believe it.

I was in webinars since midday today, all the while a product photo on the website was wrong and felt like it would tear the business apart. Fortunately I turned one of the meeting rooms into a studio and got some new shots

The electric drumkit has arrived 😃 Elder saved his Xmas and birthday money plus all of his pocket money for an electric drumkit so he can practise with headphones on and not bother anyone (and also he's learning so he's shy). He saved the money and then asked me if he could get one, how could I say no 🥹 Great effort for a 13/14 yo, very proud ATM.

Was craving carbs like crazy, so cooked up a bunch of spuds and made some mash with cheese and slow cooked onions. Absolutely hit the spot.

Melbcat update

Bad news, TW cancer

They’re now saying Melbcat has an abdominal mass. That it’s probably cancer and has likely spread into her lung and lymph nodes.

The three choices were biopsy and chemo, euthanasia, or try her on steroids to see if it responds.

I’ve chosen to have a biopsy just to get more information on whether there’s any point to trying to treat it, or get an idea of how soon we would need to euthanise her.

I’m visiting her this evening and will try to get a cuddle in. I’m not sure if I’ll get any more information tonight but will have to see.

[–] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 7 points 1 day ago

Oh Melba, I'm sorry. Good idea on biopsy, just to see. Fuck cancer.

[–] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 5 points 1 day ago

Oh.. So sorry to hear that Melba.

[–] PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 5 points 1 day ago

I'm so sorry Melba

Oh no... I hope they have this wrong 😔

Sending so much love. Hopefully further info will be revealed and help guide next steps 🖤

[–] SituationCake@aussie.zone 2 points 1 day ago

So very sorry to hear. Whatever her path, I know it will be made as comfortable as possible due to your love and care.

So sorry Melba :( cancer sucks. Make sure you feed her whatever she wants, I know you will.

❤️❤️❤️

oh gees

so many hugs,

but it seems you caught it at a time when there are options, and that's good , so that's a positive

[–] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 5 points 1 day ago

I’m not sure. They mentioned it being aggressive. I guess I’ll just wait for more information

Filling up petrol at 7/11 tonight, I see a sign about stocking onigiri and gyoza. Very reminiscent of Japan 7/11.

Inspected the gyoza more closely. Korean BBQ beef flavoured, pan fried, looked good. Discounted $5.50 for 5 pieces. Eating now, they’re pretty good. Bit stingy with the included sauce though. Will try the onigiri next time.

[–] Force_majeure1234@aussie.zone 2 points 15 hours ago

I've tried their onigiri and it was incredibly bland, no seasoning in the rice and not much filling

7-11 has really lifted its sandwich and lunchmeal game over the last couple of years. I've been pretty impressed with the range and quality. The thai beef salad wraps are very nice. For a while they had very nice lamb souvlaki wraps too. And the roast beef & salad sangers pretty legit. Haven't tried the onigiri yet though.

Let's just see if you survive the night first

[–] SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 2 points 23 hours ago

Just don't go near their egg roll. It's a crime against taste.

Will have to try! I miss the onigiri.

[–] Catfish@aussie.zone 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Wow, so much upsetting cat news. Best wishes to all. 🖤🖤🖤 For contrast, TheVoid has had an uneventful dentistry visit, aside from discovering he has 1 forked tooth. Has scarfed multiple meals in one go and is snoring like a tractor.

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 5 points 1 day ago

Miss Meow also had a fairly uneventful vet visit. She has been vomiting a bit though, so the vet gave her an anti nausea shot and we have to wait and see if it comes back. If it does continue she might need to be poked and prodded for some more tests and/or we might have to do an exclusion diet to see if it is an allergy. But there are no other signs of anything wrong so it's probably nothing too drastic.

Tacos for dinner as a reward for all my hard work today

They are not very Mexican tacos, the meat is pulled pork with more of an American BBQ flavouring, but they were delicious. The slightly weird-textured yoghurt worked well - extra straining improved the texture quite a bit, it does make a decent alternative to sour cream, which was what I was after.

Finally finished the fence post holes. Didn't get a jack hammer, just chipped away at it. Prick of a job that needed to be done. Felt a kinship to the priest and Edmond in The Count of Monte Cristo tunnelling my way to success. Still need to set the posts, rails, pailings, letter box and doorbell. But that's tomorrow's job.

I don't like how Rocky looks 😞

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Why?

myself , I pictured Rocky as being more delicate

but he is 180kg so maybe he's meant to be more solid , his legs have to support his weight

[–] SituationCake@aussie.zone 3 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Huh, I must have totally missed this in the book, my imagination made him waist high. Ryan Gosling is good casting though, I think he will be perfect! I’m trying to resist watching the trailer, I don’t want the movie spoiled.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 2 points 1 day ago

he's waist high in the book but a good proportion of his body is made of heavy metals , he has to withstand a pressure cooker environment and over double Earth's gravity, so he weighs 360 kg on Eridani

Yeah I’m definitely not watching it. I saw the first teaser trailer and I’m good with that.

[–] Force_majeure1234@aussie.zone 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Seems kinda featureless to me, he's meant to have some radiator kinda device on his head and I imagine him a lot more like... bumpy and less clean lines

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

he is meant to have pentagonal symmetry but that doesn't mean no symmetry and no features

does Rocky have a favoured side? Does he have a front? he does because he wears clothes and has pockets and bags ( in the book )

and I'm down the beach for many hours every week and see such symmetry all the time, star fish and sea urchins have all kinds of features and organs,

[–] Force_majeure1234@aussie.zone 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Well he doesn't match my imagination and that's enough for it to be a bother to me

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 8 points 1 day ago (7 children)

We did an emergency run to the vet last night , misha was restive and panting.

she had heart failure. She spent the night in an oxygen tent, they said ahe was very responsive to the meds and draining the chest fluid buildup, and we brought her home this morning with some meds and a consult with a cardiologist

she was minking efram and had a good day before it happened, now she's tired and cranky and puking and I'm worried we just brought her home to die.

I'm so sorry Taleya, wishing misha a speedy recovery 🥺

Oh god it’s so hard to know what’s the right thing to do even with expert advice! Hoping things settle and are okay quickly 🖤

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 points 1 day ago

hugs

sending lots of healing vibes

[–] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 3 points 1 day ago

I’m so sorry Taleya. I have my fingers crossed for Misha 🤞

Melbourne PT is honestly useless.

On the way to work: signalling fault

On the way home: replacement bus

This isn't uncommon.

Call from the hospital.

Melbcat medicalTo my understanding this has been caused by an infection that spread up to her kidney/s, one of them is enlarged or infected. I think they said the left. (I forget.) Pyelonephritis.

There’s a dark spot on her lung but they don’t know whether it’s from inhaled vomit, if it’s normal, or something else. So she needs an ultrasound and X-rays. Normally they do 5 ultrasounds in a day and she’s sitting on 6 so not sure if it will get done today.

She’s still seeming flat but also giving the vets some attitude which might interfere with the procedures so I’ll bring in her Zylkene to see if that helps and I’ve told them she can handle a lot of gabapentin. They’re bumping up her antinausea meds because she doesn’t really want to eat.

I don’t have a good feeling about this. :( I’m stressing about money but also about losing her.

I got about halfway through the mulch moving this afternoon, so I should be able to finish it off in a couple of hours tomorrow morning. That will finish of about 1/3 of the area to be mulched, but the rest is being done with bales of pea straw and sugarcane mulch so is a bit less effort. Digging out the front edge of the beds to remove the grass is the tougher work. I can spread that out over a bit more time though, and might have to do it in gaps between rain based on the current forecast.

It will be interesting to see how successful I am at keeping the edge neat. It's just grass straight against the edge of the garden bed, so I'll need to keep on top of the edging to cut back any grass runners etc. I have an edger with the solid blade, so it should be fairly easy to just run along the edge before mowing, I just need to make sure I don't get lazy and skip it.

Woah. Just finished Fever House by Keith Rosson. Read it on the strength of a passing mention on a podcast I listen to. Great, gripping book. Would highly recommend.

Swapped my wfh day so I'm in the office with 4 people, only 1 of whom I talk to.
