General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

Reform UK has announced it would create an ICE-style agency to oversee the deportation of illegal migrants if it were in government.

Zia Yusuf, Reform's new home affairs spokesperson, said on Monday morning that a Reform government would establish a UK Deportation Command.

Its task would be to deliver "Operation Restoring Justice" to fulfil the party's plan of deporting 600,000 illegal migrants.

He also announced an overhaul of the Prevent counter-extremism programme to target "Islamist extremism", and said a Reform government would ban groups it deemed extremist.

Yusuf further said that new laws would stop the "incendiary" act of churches being converted into mosques.

The government needs to outlaw campaign donations from anyone not residing in the UK and anyone who is not a UK citizen. The law should also require full disclosure of donors. And the law should have sufficient teeth that people go to prison for violating it.

Besides copying Republicans what they are also doing is moving the overton window right by making concentration camps for Muslims an acceptable talking point.

Who are they trying to appeal to with this? I know that Reform is ahead in the polls but basically every conservative party across the planet is suffering from their relationships/similarities to trump and US republicans.

Do they think this will make them appealing to MORE people?

I am all for this. Once built, the first people tossed into this new British gulag should include Zia Yusuf, his entire extended family and Kirsten Farage - Nigel's German wife. Oh and his kids . . as they are only "half brits".

In the second wave, we should use the electrical register to round up all the members of Reform UK itself. After the half-brits, next should be the half-wits.

And after that . . all the Brexit voters??

First they came for the Communists . . . (the /s should be obvious, but I'll include it just for clarity)

*First they came for the Communists . . . *

Had they came for the fascists first, people might quit posting that fucking quote endlessly.

Zia Yusuf could call his agency "Choc Ice"

He should call it his house party since they're going to be knocking at his door. the idiot is signing his own death warrant. To be clear I'm all for that the self-hating twat that the is to be ended by his own politics.

they’re going to be knocking at his door

There will be selective enforcement, just as there is in the US.

Maybe they'll come for him later once he's no longer useful, but as long as he's in the in-crowd, he'll enjoy impunity.

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

ICE actually aren't that good at selective enforcement. They're paid per arrest, so restraint isn't really in their vocabulary as been overzealous makes them more money.

Selectivity takes many forms. How many rich people have been detained by ICE? How many ICE raids have been directed at wealthy enclaves?

Leopards' favourite treat.

Yeah good luck building detention centres. Labour tried that on a disused airfield and still got objections from the locals. To reform voters everything sounds like a good idea until it affects them.

I'd love to know why it's "incendiary" to turn churches into mosques instead of, say, overpriced flats or nightclubs.

There's a beautiful half mosque half cathedral in Cordoba.

Presumably because one of them will torch any converted building they come across.

I wonder how many of these ones who use Christianity as their key to xenophobia go to church regularly or read the Bible. I'd wager very few.

Farage's only god is Mammon.
