Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:

We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.

Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.

Zelensky blinded by rage attacks westernphile Russian gusanos, demanding they be forced back into Russia, thus ending their love of the west - and giving Russia more manpower and more capital.

Compradors learning again and again that Sauron does not share power

Never learning, just repeating the same mistake over and over

F*** away to Russia. Go home. You don’t respect anybody in the United States. You don’t respect the rules. You don’t respect democracy. You don’t respect Ukraine or Europe. Go home!

He accused wealthy Russians of using profits from energy companies to fund education at European universities and to purchase real estate abroad.

The horror!

Considering how 'profitable' the education mafia is in western countries because they prey on foreigners, they ain't sanctioning shit.

Nuclear power

Total sanctions means total. President Trump took strong steps sanctioning Lukoil and Rosneft. We are thankful to him. He can sanction all of their energy, in particular nuclear energy. And it will be a powerful message to the Europeans,” Zelenskyy posted on X.

Yes sanction something Russia has total control over.

Isn't sanctioning Russian nuclear power basically a self own? It was so important that it was like the only Soviet sector the Americans didn't sanction and instead went through great efforts to access it.

They already did it with Russian natural gas shrug-outta-hecks

You know, I was on the fence about his Costco free sample policies (sounds like socialism to me!) but you just can't deny the economic stimulus he brought with his N-word fracking technology.

Is Zelensky trying to appeal to ICE?

[–] happybaby@hexbear.net 13 points 1 day ago

No! That's our Azov batallion!

Wouldn't they end up fighting against Ukraine?

[–] jackmaoist@hexbear.net 31 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ukraine as a nation has basically committed suicide to own the Russians. They don't care about anything else even if it harms them. That's why there are a ton of Nazis running around openly in Ukraine eventhough it's not good for Ukraines reputation.

Not fair to the majority of Ukrainians tbh. Most people over there just wanna live in peace and aren't actual Nazis, russophobes after the war for sure, but that's kinda a natural reaction being exposed to the war conditions and to the propaganda. Ukraine is not a Nazi nation to the extent that Nazi Germany was for example, I'd argue less Nazi than Estonia or Poland.

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 23 points 2 days ago

Gotta stoke up that Russophobia regardless of the cost

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 16 points 1 day ago

Perhaps, especially if they are deported on the urging of the leader of the Ukrainian government, but I think the goal isn't to weaken Russia but to stamp out even the most faint and sentimental western opposition to the Ukro-Nazi death cult that says it won't stop fighting until Crimea is reclaimed. From a certain standpoint, this makes sense, because if you're fighting a hopeless war to start with, making the enemy a little bit stronger has no practical difference in and of itself.

Zelensky also urges US and Europe to deport Ukrainians to Ukraine, Khorne does not care from where blood flows.

maddened I knew Zelensky was going to throw me under the bus eventually, I never should have trusted him.
