Mildly Interesting

This is for strictly mildly interesting material. If it's too interesting, it doesn't belong. If it's not interesting, it doesn't belong.

This is obviously an objective criteria, so the mods are always right. Or maybe mildly right? Ahh.. what do we know?

Just post some stuff and don't spam.

Sorry for a photo of a phone screen. I had trouble screen capturing the notification shade.

So, the person who designed that absolutely did it on purpose, right? Because if not, that is the funniest coincidence I’ve seen in a long while.

[–] the_joeba@lemmy.world 46 points 2 years ago

Speaking ass an app developer, the person who chose the text is probably not the person who did the development or testing. This is probably a default template where they just say "what's the title, what's the message". It would be very unlikely that it was anything butt a coincidence.

Truncated, not cropped.

Cropped is for images.

[–] bobagem@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 years ago

Yes, agreed.

from ~1 year ago I got the the same thing

[–] SnipingNinja@slrpnk.net 26 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

Theirs is better as it says to hold the action butt

[–] friendlymessage@feddit.de 26 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It's also better because the font is not awful

[–] SnipingNinja@slrpnk.net 15 points 2 years ago

I agree, but didn't mention coz it's their phone and they can make it as bad as they want.

[–] whoisearth@lemmy.ca 25 points 2 years ago

Your phone font is making me twitch

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 13 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Hey OP, did you know your account is set to appear as a bot and many might be filtering it.

[–] bobagem@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I did not know. Thanks for telling me. Fixed.

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Thank you for acknowledging my attempt! I've made similar comments to other users at least five times and they all went ignored.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 11 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Shouldn't that mean they are... bots..?

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

That's all I can conclude. I was actually surprised OP replied. But I knew they were human by how they interacted with users.

[–] DarkThoughts@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I mean. There are quite a few legit bots around. Especially on the news subs. The fediverse isn't quite as saturated yet with legit content submissions.

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

But engaging in the comments? I'm not talking about alien.top either.

[–] DarkThoughts@kbin.social 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I hope not. Although I keep seeing some people posting the same shit I saw on Reddit. Might just be lazy commenting though.

Old habits die hard

[–] bobagem@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Thank you. I'm going to try again now.

I'm using sync on Android and I don't believe that I can change the setting there. I can change the setting for whether I filter bot accounts, and so that confused me for a bit about whether I was misinterpreting that setting.

I did find the setting in a web browser on my home instance. And I thought I corrected it, and I thought I saved my change. Updates and screenshots to follow momentarily.

Is this a setting that defaults to bot‽

[–] bobagem@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

When I search for this setting in Sync it shows up.

But when I click on it it goes to a page that does not offer the setting either at the top level or buried inside of anything else.

When I go to look for this setting again in my home instance, I find that it is in fact now correctly set. It was not correctly set when I posted. So my fix stuck.

I assume, as someone else suggested, that there's some caching going on somewhere, either on the transmitting end or the receiving end.

That's fair: as far as Lemmy knows it was posted by a self-declared bot, even if that puppet later became a real boy.

[–] oce@jlai.lu 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Still have the B icon next to your name.

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Really? What app are you using? Maybe it's cached? The bot icon on sync went away for me as soon as OP turned it off.

[–] PoolloverNathan@programming.dev 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

Sync user here, OP still has bot icon.

Edit: Gone now

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 years ago

I continue to be further confused.

[–] oce@jlai.lu 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)
[–] can@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 years ago

Oh that's even more confusing. Maybe make a bug report?

[–] lawrence@lemmy.world 12 points 2 years ago

AI is becoming too intrusive.

[–] Annoyed_Crabby@monyet.cc 8 points 2 years ago

~~Unfortunate~~ Fortunate cropping of a phone notification

Fixed.

[–] Gork@lemm.ee 8 points 2 years ago

Thank you for sharing this. It will be a true Internet treasure for generations to come.

Instructions unclear, became aroused

[–] shallowAF@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

Somewhat related - anyone knows how to completely disable this message? I have turned off ASSistant, but this keeps popping up everytime I connect bluetooth headset. Thanks in advance

[–] MossyFeathers@pawb.social 6 points 2 years ago

There's a streamer I sometimes watch on twitch who used to play a game and then spend some time watching analog horror that chat had recommended. He intentionally phrased his stream titles so they'd show up in twitch notifications as, "now: [game/activity] later: anal..."

[–] HawlSera@lemm.ee 3 points 2 years ago

This the body part tf nsfw server? Been looking for that...

Notification brought to you by Ace Ventura: Pet Detective

[–] lazycouchpotato@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Got a notification in similar vein a while ago from Xbox.

Xbox wants all children

[–] Unforeseen@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 years ago (3 children)

I'm more impressed you have multiple phones handy in order to be able to do said photo

[–] tiredofsametab@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago

If not a screenshot, you do realize that things other than phones take pictures, right? Have people forgotten that cameras exist?

[–] threelonmusketeers@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

Is this not a screenshot?

Edit: Maybe not, there are some strange moiré-like patterns surrounding the text...

[–] DarkThoughts@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago

It very obviously is not? You can literally see the frame of the phone and OP even said in the description that it is a photo of a phone screen.
