The former admin of feddit.de was on a work trip in Asia when feddit.de went down. The instance never recovered.
Did he just not want to bring it back up when he returned?

Do you not have a way of remotely bringing the server back up?
I bought a KVM for that purpose, but didn't get around installing it.
The other person able to do it manually will be available the same time as me more or less so I don't want to bother them.
What is a KVM? I'm not familiar with the term. I just meant that you aren't able to SSH into the machine or something? But I guess if it's turned off and physically unavailable, that's hard.
A KVM is basically a second computer that acts as a virtual screen and keyboard that can be connected to the server to remote control it as if you were physically in front of it, including hardware resets and access to the bios etc.
Is that the second time this sort of thing has happened to you (where you were able to give us status updates, but not physically access your server), or was the previous incident I'm thinking of with a different admin?
Either way, I appreciate you, but I think your 'bus factor' is too high.
Yeah, I need to work on the busfactor.
The last time it went down was a similar situation and all the stuff I planned to prevent it next time I procastrinated on because the server was stable 🤦
I can relate. Been meaning to fix that hole in my roof for a while now.

And also, some suggestions:
- Your XMPP is also down. I just came across this by luck. Maybe adding your alternative username (kris@feddit.org) to your main povoq@slrpnk.net about is not a bad idea. That would help people find your posts when an outage is happening.
- A status page (status.slrpnk.net) where you (admins) can leave comments? Perhaps, when slrpnk.net is down, automatically redirect there?
