Heh, PieFed has been around in a usable form for less than one year now. It's a pity it wasn't around when you joined the Fediverse, but now it is. I believe chances are it will eventually overtake Lemmy in number of users. That should also probably speed up Lemmy's development quite nicely, which would be nice as well!

RULES
- Be respectful: no harassment, hate speech, bigotry, and/or trolling.
- Encourage conversation in your OP. This means including heavily implicative subject matter when you can and also engaging in your thread when possible.
- Avoid controversial topics (e.g. politics or societal debates).
- Stay calm: Don’t post angry or to vent or complain. We are a place where everyone can forget about their everyday or not so everyday worries for a moment. Venting, complaining, or posting from a place of anger or resentment doesn't fit the atmosphere we try to foster at all. Feel free to post those on !goodoffmychest@lemmy.world
- Keep it clean and SFW

Watch the sweat crack in the tankie quarters once we hit 10k mau!
They got really emotional when the user base exploded in thousands of new signups.
I'm new here, which instance is the talkie quarters? Piefed seems fairly balanced and welcoming, which I can't say for other alternative socials I've tried.
Nice to hear you enjoy Piefed. Being able to block entire instances at the user level is indeed quite nice. There is also a built-in keyword filter if you want, and personal feeds can be helpful to keep track of different interests
Lemmy is fine from my experience (I have an alt on lemmy.zip, even), but the devs seem to have some really questionable political leanings.
Piefed feels like it's for everyone, and Rimu and the team are incredible at keeping this place running.
I've only been on Fediverse platforms since January, but I like it so far. I'm on Mastodon(mstdn.plus) and PieFed.zip.
Welcome!
I used to wish I could block a specific instance. I used to think everyone on this instance was a troll. I've seen more of their people, and I no longer feel that's the case. I'm not sure my Lemmy experience would be better without this instance, though I don't think they are actively making it better by not being blocked. They just... are.
I really only block people who harass me (multiple rude messages) and who exclusively post stuff I don't like to see. I browse /all exclusively, so I see a lot of stuff and thus, block a lot of communities. But sometimes people go from communities dedicated to things I don't like to see, into more general communities to, I guess recruit? I dunno. So I block them. It's nothing personal, they might be lovely people IRL, but their main game is posting stuff I don't wanna see, so I just hit block. (I often wish they don't know I did it because I try not to spread negativity. Though I think we all do a little of that from time to time, I try to be conscious of the energy I'm putting out there.)
I only heard about PieFed after I joined up, but I hear the instance I use is going to offer (or has offered?) a PieFed instance. Maybe someday I'll look into switching.
Hm, this makes me think: An ability to grey out or even more aggressively hide posts from user/instance that I have blocked, but still without completely deleting them, would be very welcome to me!
I could decide to read the shit if I really want to, but I could also easily recognize those comments as something I do not really want to interact with, and proceed to other comments.
