$5 a month is all they ask — an absurdly low price for a Lemmyverse of news, education, entertainment, and silly memes.
is there arbitrage ?
- order waymo,
- open door,
- cancel ride (pay cancel fee $4.99 ???),
- pick up doordash order,
- earn $6.25 ???
- profit $1.25
repeat
Seems pretty reasonable. I'm sure Waymo would much rather have a way to close them remotely, but that means a lot of moving parts to maintain and break if they fix. Since most people probably do close the door behind them, the marginal cost of paying a Door Dash fee for the occasional open door probably works out cheaper than retrofitting and maintaining door controllers on the entire fleet.
And they can add a "remote door close" fee on riders that leave it open! (I have no idea if they do that, yet).
