New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has appointed the Zionist leader of a liberal Jewish community group to lead his Office to Combat Antisemitism.

Phylisa Wisdom, who will be leading City Hall’s fight against Jew-hatred, has led the New York Jewish Agenda since 2023.

The group opposed the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign, an anti-Israel initiative Mamdani has previously expressed his support for.

The group been instrumental in calling out antisemitism over the years. Last month, after a protest outside a synagogue saw activists chant “we support Hamas”, NYJA condemned it as “unambiguous and unacceptable antisemitism”.

NYJA is a liberal Zionist organisation that supports Israel’s right to exist but is opposed to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government.

Love2triangulate. Why does this office even exist?

Her predecessor as leader of the Office to Combat Antisemitism was Rabbi Moshe Davis, who was at the helm since the post’s creation by former mayor Eric Adams last May.

So its a bullshit scam office but he's too chicken to just delete it. Did no one from JVP want the bullshit job or did Phylisa actually deliver him some voting bloc?

lol I didn't even know this office was created a year ago. Then there is literally no excuse not to abolish it

[–] ZWQbpkzl@hexbear.net 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

There's the simple reason of avoiding the headlines and the media attack cycle.

Success!

As we know, playing nice with Nazis always works out

[–] ZWQbpkzl@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That's honestly is good press for Mamdani. Makes Phylisa look better than she is.

[–] SickSemper@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Why not just have someone good or abolish the position entirely

[–] ZWQbpkzl@hexbear.net 2 points 1 day ago

Because the headline you posted makes Mamdani look like a moderate.

[–] SickSemper@hexbear.net 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

He’s not too chicken, he sincerely wants to hire Zionists

[–] ZWQbpkzl@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

As in Phylisa probably delivered some liberal-zionist votes and is being rewarded. If you remember Brad Lander, he deliberately formed a liberal-zionist + anti-zionist coalition for Mamdani.

"Liberal Nazis for Mamdani"

Yeah but he'll make the lives of New Yorkers better because he says he doesn't like landlords, which is cool and based actually smuglord

If somebody is seeking elected office in America that's all you need to know not to trust them.

Ecactly this. I commented something similar the last post about Zohron doing something uncool.

He may deliver some good things for people in NYC and thats great, but he's not communist. He's not going to follow our principles. There was never a reason to trust him in the first place

PSL

[–] LeninWeave@hexbear.net 14 points 2 days ago (2 children)

The PSL aren't really seeking elected office, AFAIK they're mainly using elections as platforms to reach and recruit people.

[–] sewer_rat_420@hexbear.net 15 points 2 days ago

It would certainly be cool if one of their candidates won, but they certainly aren't an electoral or entryist group like the DSA

[–] ZWQbpkzl@hexbear.net 4 points 2 days ago

There's some local chapters that are starting to seek municipal seats according to some members here.

The reality in the US is the proletariat won't take a political party seriously unless they seriously engage in electoral politics. The PSL presidential shenanigans might win them some more college radicals but the masses will always see a more radical green party. If they started holding seats like SAlt did then they might get some real traction.

"Hmm this is like, the one thing that I stood out from the rest (somewhat anti-Israel) for and most of my base supports... So, should I do the bare minimum and abolish it, or appoint someone that wouldn't hate BDS..? Nah, because I'm the great compromiser, Imma do something so unforced and unneeded that will make me look like a stooge, that's how to win!"

is what Mamdani's thought process was probably

[–] InexplicableLunchFiend@hexbear.net 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

i think the thought process is: this is what i believe

I’m over the term liberal Zionist, they’re all going in one box for me from now on.

Always very much expected. He told us months ago that he was going to have Zionists in his administration

[–] CyborgMarx@hexbear.net 13 points 2 days ago

So apparently Zohran has settled for the two steps forward, one step back approach of governance

[–] krolden@lemmy.ml 7 points 2 days ago

I wish the usa would have fallen when I was younger. I'm so exhausted

This is me. I absolutely know better. I didn't fall for it. I'm perfectly willing to drink the disappointment when he wants an Israel tax or something. But God strike me down if this isn't neat.

Me two days ago when Mamdani advertised New Yorkers vs Bad Landlords. Now they have to pay for her stupid salary.

Look at least you are honest about it
