I watched the game with a bunch of friends, including three Spanish-first-language speakers. Sadly I’ve not been very successful at picking up languages, so I had to suffice with enjoying the groove and tunes of the performance. But I did occasionally peek over at my friends, all of whom were paying intense attention and gave some verbal reactions a few times. There was clearly a lot of meaningful context that I’d love to be keyed into.

I’m also an anime nerd, and the subtitle work that some fans do for their favorite shows are outstanding; not just providing cogent translations of dialog, but also adding cultural reference context (usually in different colors elsewhere in the screen) relating to specific lines, actions or locations.

I really hope somebody with the skills and knowledge can put this together and find someplace to host it that won’t take it down!

Mon Feb 9 2026, 07:35 UTC update: Answering my own questions here, BlueSky user beckyhammer has provided a detailed cultural context breakdown of the imagery and references from the performance (skywriter, original thread on bsky).

Bad Bunny is the Hispanic equivalent of mumble rap. Great guy, makes some really fun music! But I can't understand a word he says in his songs and I'm Hispanic.

Yeah he raps like he’s got something in his mouth. I like the guy and his music. But that’s just a bit of constructive criticism.

As was the style at the time.

I watched the show with a native Spanish speaker and she couldn’t understand any of his lyrics lol.

I mean I often can't understand English lyrics either. Pearl Jam comes to mind as the most notorious example. It obviously just doesn't matter that much.

oh definitely. just saying that OP was saying there was meaningful context and I was doing the same, looking at my friend and she looked bewildered XD

Another reference, the Puerto Rican flag with the light blue triangle is the flag from before America took over the island and changed it to match the blue of the American flag. It’s a symbol of independence and resistance. On his song "La Mudanza," Bad Bunny raps, "Aquí mataron gente por sacar la bandera / Por eso es que ahora yo la llevo dondequiera" (They killed people here for having the flag / That's why now I take it with me everywhere). This references the Ley de la Mordaza, or Gag Law, which banned Puerto Ricans from having a Puerto Rican flag, let alone criticize colonialism, from 1948-1957.

Thanks for the update and the question, I've been hoping for something exactly like this.

There’s a scene during the wedding or maybe the party in front of the casita with a little kid sleeping on plastic lawn chairs. That’s what I used to do when the adults were still partying for weddings birthdays and baby showers

Check Reddit before they all get taken down.

If anyone has a link to a high bitrate (or high quality) version of the show (better than YouTube, which doesn't seem to be dealing with the fast movement as well as I'd like), please let me know!

I posted the BSKY link, but noticed you linked to it in the edit. One tip, though. Each time the screenshotted posts end, she continues in the reply to that post. Might be a thread-limit on bsky.

I don't go on r*ddit much at all any more, but had to take a ~~bullet~~ peek, hoping someone had an explanation for some of the references: https://www.reddit.com/r/NoStupidQuestions/s/Y4RVLaPfsx

PS: the old and new subdomain trick didn't work for me -- they're now enforcing login. YMMV.

Side note: JFC, that place is positively larded with ads now. But the halftime show was so damn good it was worth getting slimed.
