Unpacking since Friday, broke and bone tired. However, day one in Weymouth was already more of a social success than Ramsgate ever was. Thrilled at how much friendlier Dorset is.

social success

Is that code for "my new neighbours aren't complete wankers"

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 3 points 5 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

What a pleasure to be understood. Though in fairness there was one genuinely friendly neighbour in Kent and one who bothered to fake it, but the rest were aloof beyond words.

In contrast, the first time we visited town a guy invited me to knock on his door to ride bikes, and on our first weekend living here a neighbour stopped to chat for ten minutes.

Think I'm going to need a new social battery. I haven't charged mine since about 2019, and it's not looking good.

My street is pretty good, I invited half of them to my birthday at the local and they all came. It's good to have good neighbours

You absolute tw#t!

I bloody knew it. Well f#ck you. It's my birthday in October and you can bet your neighbourly arse I'll only be inviting the other half of the street to the local. I'm sure they'll all come and we'll have a much better time than you all did.

Apart from the dicks at number 5 obviously. But f#ck them and their 4 cars. Parking all up the road and keeping their drive empty so it's easier to put their bin out a day early.

Dicks.

Jon, we tried inviting you remember? But you spat at my feet and kept calling my partner "the Devil". We laughed it off until you nailed that goats head to our door and called the police on us for walking on your side of the road. Then you rallied Mad Mick and his crew to join arms and sing kumbaya outside my window at 3am to purge my "sexy spirit" from the house. I mean, it's a bit much. Anyway, enjoy your party and say hi to Mick for me

Yeah alright ta, how was yours?

Expensive one this end. We've had this sofa for eleven years and it's put in it's fair share of service. We ordered another one from Ikea...

...but the other half says "well seeing as it's the biggest piece of furniture in the living room, why don't we do the carpets while we're at it?" and I'm like fair enough, makes sense...

...and then she's like "well if we're doing the carpets, we might as well paint the walls and the ceiling so we don't fuck the new carpet" and annoyingly I was like fair enough, makes a whole lot of sense.

A pricey week, but it does get three jobs done in one weekend I suppose.

[–] Cyber@feddit.uk 5 points 6 days ago (1 children)

And since you've done that room...

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk -4 points 5 days ago

... maybe it's time to get the tubes tied so that we can do it raw on the new carpet. We can leave our handprints on the freshly painted wall

haha, these things do tend to escalate. We had our living room floor and decorating done last year, and my wife was like "let's get new sofas!" and I pointed out that our existing ones fit perfectly with the new style we were going for. I finally managed to convince her that getting them professionally cleaned would be the the better idea and sure enough it was lol, made a massive difference to how they look.

Yeah alright ta, how was yours?

Tiring. Been trying to sort out longer term care for my dad, as he's been having free care since being discharged from rehab from the carehome. We didn't know it was only temporary so we've been in a bit of a panic trying to get a replacement care package sorted for him. My mother in law then also got sent to hospital and has spent the week there due to an issue with her lungs, being moved over to a bigger hospital over the weekend. So it's been a bit manic trying to deal with them and keep the kids busy, do the housework, get some gym time in and so on.

[–] PhobosAnomaly@feddit.uk 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

If you're anything like me, gym time would be the first thing getting fucked off. I've been quite enjoying putting the miles in round the town again. It's remarkable how much urban environments change in the couple of weeks that you've sacked the runs off.

Good luck with your father. It's hard work after all.

I'd love nothing more to go out there and run but unfortunately I keep getting pains around my calves after a few runs, so I'm avoiding the running for now!

I dunno what kind of cold is going around, but I was properly knocked out for ~4 days last week. Still not right now...

It wasn't proper flu as I could still walk around, etc. And it wasn't Covid (as far as I could tell) as that feels different.

Maybe all the stress of doing 12 hour days for the last 2 years caught up with me?

Anyway, back to work this week with all of last week's backlog to catch up on... yay...

[–] blackn1ght@feddit.uk 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I've been hit with another cold after being wiped out by one before Christmas. It's not as bad but I haven't been able to breathe through my nose for a couple of weeks!

[–] Cyber@feddit.uk 1 points 5 days ago

On the plus side, if you can't use your nose, you can't smell, which means food tastes bland, which means (in my case), I lose a little weight...

Your name on the web UI is "SayCyberOnceMore" so I was curious what would happen if I did!

[–] Cyber@feddit.uk 2 points 5 days ago

Ahhh 🙂

It's from my job, every goddam thing has to have "cyber" in the name.

So I came up with this:

January was a blur and was genuinely a terrible month, and February's start is proving to be the same. Just a whirlwind of being stretched too thin across too many different things.

Still, I saw my bosses last week and they looked rough, too rattled to lay into me and too worried to even bring up new projects.

Things may not be boding well, but the stress of the work has eased off as I'm taking some small comfort in the idea that everyone might be having a shit January/Feb
