MODERATORS
Skoda is just rebadged VW, Dacia is just rebadged Renault etc. Some of the other brands have rebadged models in other markets too.
European cars can differ a lot between EU & NA market in terms of build quality and spec, wouldn’t take much notice of this
Mercedes is a lot more reliable in Europe as we get the diesels and don't get the US built cars. Many common Toyota models in the US don't exist here in Europe at all.
No point in looking at this as an European tbh.
not only rebadged but built in different plants. that can affect reliability too.
True, although for VAG in EU specifically it tends to be split by platform/model and not by badge
I do t care if Mazda is the least reliable Japanese automaker on this list…

Where is this data from, and does this include all years, or just 2025/2026 models?
I was doing a bunch of research between Mazda and Toyota recently and I found out that they share engine / drive train tech. I know Mazda used to have a bad reputation, but I think it's a lot better now
Also, how is BMW in 5th? lol
BMW's current B48 and B58 engines are some or the best they've ever made in their history. They're quite reliable and make a very good amount of power. Even Toyota uses the B58 in the Supra. The ZF transmissions are also quite mature and robust. They really improved a lot.

Mazda was under the Ford umbrella for a while. That definitely contributed to the unreliable reputation.
I've found consumer reports to be unreliable.
For example my step father is a firm believer and only buys what they recommend. Comparing purchases over the last 20+ years he's had a lot more problems with his purchases than we've had.
The trash he talks about HDTV Test and Project Farm among other resources I trust is aggravating.
One example he bought the knife sharpener Consumer Reports recommended highest and I bought the one Project Farm recommended. Fast forward several years and he's constantly bitching about needing to replace knives every few years because the metal is so bad. Totally ignoring that electric knife sharpeners are known to ruin knives due the heat generated. I've pointed out a few times I still have all the same knives and they work great.
To be fair his knives are generic stamped knives with "made in China" printed on em and we buy Wusthof mostly.
Difficult to believe that Buick still exists and rates as highly as it does.
