[–] kingofras@lemmy.world 24 points 3 months ago

Okay, that worked. That made me forget about ICE and greenland for 2 minutes

When a woman wants to read a fictional story with relatable characters and emotional context who are also attracted to each other and have sex in about 30% of the scenes it's seen as a bit of naughty fun, but when a man wants to jerk off for 3 minutes to a close-up clip of an over-saturated oil-coated faceless asshole getting pounded by a faceless cock, and maybe go for a bonus scene of the girl turning red and gagging from being facefucked, suddenly he's a "pervert"

It is, but it's also pretty undeniably perverted. Lots of women and men both get off to it. Lots of erotica is perverted too, of course. Nothing wrong with being kinky!

I just think it's silly that the OP tries to pretend as though the typical erotica is the same sort of thing as the typical porn. Anyone who has consumed both can verify they're vastly different. And I think it's especially infuriating that the OP tries to make women out as hypocritical about this when, in my experience, plenty of women like visual porn too, and I've never personally known a woman irl who hates on visual porn but also reads erotica. Seems like a totally imaginary caricature as far as I'm concerned. Primo gender war bait.

May men and women unite to be horny and kinky and unashamed of it together!

[–] IronBird@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

op is definitely some low effort rage-bait content, agreed

[–] Gathorall@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

It is sexual but I would not use the term perverted, it's half a step removed from sinful and I don't stand for that kind of thing. To be sexual isn't wrong or unnatural.

relatable characters

As seen in monster erotica genre. 👀

This might be the most obvious attempt to paint women as judgmental hypocritics with reading comprehension issues that I've seen yet. Please take your ineptly executed false flag gender war psyops strawman arguments elsewhere 🙏

Homie my comment is sarcastic, it references a meme that makes fun of the original post. I'm pointing out that erotica and (most) visual porn are definitely not comparable like the OP implies and that it isn't hypocritical to see one as more perverted than the other.

But thank you for standing up to what you must have perceived as actual insanity

Unless your reply refers to the OP in which case it is I that have misunderstood

Pretty sure the (visual) porn I like doesn't look anything like that horny Duracell bunny's fever dream we can make out through the description you so graciously provided. Also pretty sure that "perverted men" will look like choir boys next to an actually perverted woman, there's a few text samples floating around that I think are basically unhinged. But I don't think there's anything to judge, the point is that both of these types of media are home to an entire spectrum of wholesome and less wholesome depictions of adult relations.

It's okay to say they are wholly incomparable, then don't actually compare them! Or say the opposite, that they are basically the same, and then there's also no unequality between the genders. It's just that when you start to pick and choose, and say that one is worse than the other, your position becomes founded on hypocrisy.

Isn’t the issue the exploitation of sex workers, mostly women? Like if you’ve found ethical porn, by all means wack your shit to it. I just think the things people are able to explore with writing, or hell even animation if the artists aren’t exploited, are much more varied and interesting without exploiting actors. Like I’ve found a few queer porn projects that are like owned by the actors and stuff. Basically porn coops, which is fucking awesome.

[–] GraveyardOrbit@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 months ago (3 children)

I think that’s a major issue, another that comes to mind for me is that men tend towards quite extreme pornography which may give them a stilted idea of what sexual relationships can be like

[–] fenrasulfr@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

I would not say that men tend towards extreme porn. I would say part of it is platforms serving the more extreme kinks to their viewers and part of it is getting desensatised by watching pornography for years.

[–] Aqarius@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Frankly, looking at the "romance" section, that may be an outdated stereotype.

Either that, or "extreme" is doing a lot of legwork in that sentence.

[–] GraveyardOrbit@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 months ago

Maybe so, but surely there’s a psychological or behavioral impact difference between the imagination and fantasy of literotica and real people in high definition video

[–] Gathorall@lemmy.world 0 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Well trough that lens it is perverted to enjoy most video games.

[–] Arkhive@piefed.blahaj.zone 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I wouldn’t call it perverted because I think that word has been stigmatized and weaponized to shame people, but I do in fact shop for video games based on which studios seem to treat their workers the fairest.

[–] Gathorall@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

My point is that if you want to shame people because of exploitation you should shame most video game players just like the viewers of exploitative porn. Anything else is just an excuse to be a regressive prude.

[–] Arkhive@piefed.blahaj.zone 3 points 3 months ago

Okay sure, there’s no ethical consumption under capitalism. So yeah, feel shame for consuming all media, ethical or not. /s

Is that the broad statement you want me to say to avoid being picked apart because it’s “technically correct” which is the only type of correct I need to be to “win” this would be discussion turned argument?

Killer “gotcha” moment bud 🤣

If someone buys a game they know exploits workers, or is destroying the world by participating in the AI bubble, and feels shame for doing it, that’s between them and their conscience. Shame is an incredible motivator, particularly for social and political issues. There’s a reason it gets shouted at protests and at political figures. All I said was shaming people for being interested in sexually explicit content is bad. I did not say all shame is bad.

I could go on, but OH! Would you look at that. It’s block o’clock! Lovely chatting with you while it lasted.

this outdated gender weirdness makes me feel uncomfortable tbh

[–] Test_Tickles@lemmy.world -2 points 3 months ago

It's a gross kind of weirdness is it? It's like some kind of really sad masturbation ritual. Like they can't get an erection unless they are angry enough and their little private fetishes just aren't enough anymore, so they are trying to get people to argue just enough that they can finally whip one out.

[–] Wren@lemmy.today 7 points 3 months ago

It's only because monster erotica porn can't match the realism of my imagination... yet.

[–] Tetragrade@leminal.space 5 points 3 months ago

Where do you goon. At the library.
