My wallet was stolen yesterday. Again.

Police reports, reports to the landlord (stolen from inside my apartment, part of a break inโ€ฆthe building has known security issues with randoms following tenants in) etc all filed. New cards requested. Itโ€™s fixable. Iโ€™m just vaguely disgruntled with the universe and everything in it

[โ€“] Force_majeure1234@aussie.zone 7 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Omg that's horrible I'm sorry ๐Ÿ˜ญ

[โ€“] Alamutjones@aussie.zone 5 points 3 months ago

Itโ€™s not the first time. Iโ€™ve had three or four in ten years

[โ€“] SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

That's awful!! Hope they didn't get the chance to use anything before you could cancel.

[โ€“] Alamutjones@aussie.zone 6 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Iโ€™m down about $200 in rapid fire transactions - biggest was $70 at my nearest bottle-shop

Bugger sorry that happened to you.

3-4 times over 10 years seems like a lot.

[โ€“] Alamutjones@aussie.zone 8 points 3 months ago (3 children)

Just CBD things.

I live next door to a homeless outreach. Most of the clients are harmless, but thereโ€™s definitely a probability higher than zero that one of them wanders in and starts doing antisocial stuff.

Fires in the bin room in winter, for example, because someoneโ€™s broken in and is trying to keep warm. Drug use in the community garden - we try to clean up any detritus of that. Vandalism in public areas, and once or twice Iโ€™ve witnessed fights. Iโ€™ve had the lock on my mailbox cut off and needed to replace it. The occasional break in.

My tolerance for legally questionable shenanigans may be higher than many peopleโ€™s!

Fucking low lifes. I'm sorry this has happened to you.

[โ€“] _miss_cellophane_@aussie.zone 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Oh gosh! Thatโ€™s awful!

You are much more resilient than I am. Iโ€™ve had trouble sleeping since a break in years ago.

I do feel for people experiencing these situations where they feel theft is necessary for their survival though.

Vaguely disgruntled? You are such a cool customer. Hopefully all is right soon.

Dear Apps everywhere: stop offering to summarize things for me. Documents, emails, unread messages. I don't trust you.

Ugh. Pay day is usually Monday. Boss did pays Monday (public holiday doesn't bother him, he's been known to go in and do our pays on Christmas Day if that's the payday!) but there's some kind of banking problem with payments for merchants to external accounts. I still haven't been paid ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ Hopefully tomorrow! ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿผ

It's nice to finally have the doors open for fresh air. I've looked for my motivation but it's nowhere to be found so gonna have to pump my body full of coffee instead.

[โ€“] TheWitchofThornbury2@aussie.zone 8 points 3 months ago (7 children)

Internet outage in Thornbury from late last night. Anyone else had trouble sleeping? I found the humidity really really trying, even though the temp had dropped. Still muggy this morning.

Ugh the place I do contract work for is absolutely pummelling me with new projects to take on. Looks like they've had some staff leave recently. No, I can't do your work full time. I feel bad for ignoring / rejecting the project offers but they are a stop-gap at the end of day, not my full-time gig. They definitely have enough work to hire someone with my experience full time, but it's cheaper to just use the contractor I guess. They also don't pay me nearly enough to take on the extra burden of their staff shortages.

I'm planning to use this situation to my advantage to get a better deal on fees, they obviously need me and I've been working for them long enough now to have some leverage. I've booked a call with the staff manager next week, let's see how we go! I'm becoming more ruthless in business by the day haha. But also, I need to earn the $$.

[โ€“] Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 5 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

This is great leverage.

If they keep coming back despite you rejecting project work, that spells it out.

I can't imagine they'd knock back a 15-20% increase. I've been at places that have paid contractors $800 a day because they refused to hire in house talent.

I should note this was exclusively for project work.

New resident magpie has joined the fray. Either new partner or kid of the existing long time resident.

The old one knows not to come inside. New one just flew straight in and landed a foot away from me lol. Brazen.

It's a male, so probably thinks it can just waltz in and push boundaries. Easiest birds to get out of the house, just don't want it taking a dump inside.

Interestingly when taken (well, walked and it followed) outside, long time resident gave a new call that I've never heard before and pecked it once and walked away lol.

Crazy smart creatures.

I have been generously gifted $50 to see me through a walletless week

[โ€“] StudChud@aussie.zone 7 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Woke up with puffy face. Thanks, hot weather and humidity, I look like I've been punched in both eyes

[โ€“] Force_majeure1234@aussie.zone 8 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Punch the rest of your face so it evens out

I had a semi-productive day today. One pumpkin has been cut up and roasted, most is now in the freezer. I also roasted some zucchini. Most of it will end up on toasted sandwiches in future, but some of the pumpkin will end up in risotto and similar dishes. I also made a pumpkin, onion and fetta pizza for dinner.

A little nauseous from licking the antibiotic cream off her lip and pulled one of the scabs off but no sign of infection so far (touch wood)

Good morning! Survived the heat. Puts other hot weather into a weird relative perspective, "Oh, it's only going to be 30ยฐC on Friday."

[โ€“] Catfish@aussie.zone 7 points 3 months ago

Ugh. Still in major sleep debt but eating something stupidly salty seems to have helped a great deal.

Tourist in your own state is a great thing to do. I took six weeks long service leave once and just did things from home. Some hobby classes, walking tours, even just visiting as many local parks as I could to see what was there, it was great fun.

That sounds wonderful!

Set up a date for a couple of weeks away. First date in two years. Scared, but I picked the location and it is somewhere I've been wanting to go for a while. I will have fun regardless :) unless he's a complete asshole, but I can recover.

[โ€“] SituationCake@aussie.zone 6 points 3 months ago

Will be so much more comfortable to sleep tonight. Itโ€™s not the same with aircon as having a naturally cooler night.

[โ€“] tombruzzo@aussie.zone 6 points 3 months ago

I've checked my analytics, happy to go home now again after my break

Was recommended a Meetup group that is doing a day trip to Wilson's Prom for $99. They go to the Big Drift, Tidal River, Mt Oberon, Squeaky Beach, and the wildlife park. I'm thinking perhaps this could be aimed at people who are new-ish to Melbourne, want to travel in a group and/or don't have a car. It just seems a bit pricey, but maybe that's how much fuel would cost. Would only do it for the group aspect.

[โ€“] Eagle@aussie.zone 7 points 3 months ago

Mt Oberon is a 2 hour hike... thats alot to fit in a day trip.

[โ€“] SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

That's a 400k round trip from Springy which would set me back about $80 in fuel alone. $99 seems okay tbh.
