Hiya guys and gals, I'm gonna have to travel to melbourne for work every once in a while. I think sometimes I can plan a weekend or at least a day there once in a while.

I'm not gonna ask for sights, but maybe some quality bars and restaurants?

Well really, the must see sights are welcome, too

[โ€“] tombruzzo@aussie.zone 2 points 1 day ago

This is a hard one because there are so many good places. One tip is a lot of good food places have gone up high street from Northcote all the way up to Preston instead of Collingwood/Fitzroy because of rent. You can find good stuff out west as it's been getting gentrified too

[โ€“] Taleya@aussie.zone 2 points 1 day ago

Well, where are you going? Cbd? Suburbs? It's a big place

[โ€“] StudChud@aussie.zone 2 points 1 day ago

I only really know my locals around Brunswick - The Retreat, The Cornish Arms - there are more tho lol

Ugh. Pay day is usually Monday. Boss did pays Monday (public holiday doesn't bother him, he's been known to go in and do our pays on Christmas Day if that's the payday!) but there's some kind of banking problem with payments for merchants to external accounts. I still haven't been paid ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ Hopefully tomorrow! ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿผ

I had a semi-productive day today. One pumpkin has been cut up and roasted, most is now in the freezer. I also roasted some zucchini. Most of it will end up on toasted sandwiches in future, but some of the pumpkin will end up in risotto and similar dishes. I also made a pumpkin, onion and fetta pizza for dinner.

I seem to work a lot and yet nothing gets done. ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Sheโ€™s doing well!

A little nauseous from licking the antibiotic cream off her lip and pulled one of the scabs off but no sign of infection so far (touch wood)

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

yes, we need an update ๐Ÿˆโ€โฌ›

[โ€“] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Sheโ€™s doing so well. The wobbliness went away a day or two after surgery and sheโ€™s taking it easy.

Sheโ€™s been a little off her food from licking at the antibiotic cream so Iโ€™ve told the vets about it and have stopped it until they reply. Her appetite is coming back though and I have applied a tiny bit to a newly raw spot

[โ€“] SituationCake@aussie.zone 3 points 2 days ago

I relate to this soooo much!

[โ€“] SituationCake@aussie.zone 5 points 2 days ago

Your meal prep is giving me good ideas.

Set up a date for a couple of weeks away. First date in two years. Scared, but I picked the location and it is somewhere I've been wanting to go for a while. I will have fun regardless :) unless he's a complete asshole, but I can recover.

[โ€“] SituationCake@aussie.zone 6 points 2 days ago

Will be so much more comfortable to sleep tonight. Itโ€™s not the same with aircon as having a naturally cooler night.

[โ€“] StudChud@aussie.zone 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Ugh. Still in major sleep debt but eating something stupidly salty seems to have helped a great deal.

[โ€“] Alamutjones@aussie.zone 13 points 3 days ago (18 children)

My wallet was stolen yesterday. Again.

Police reports, reports to the landlord (stolen from inside my apartment, part of a break inโ€ฆthe building has known security issues with randoms following tenants in) etc all filed. New cards requested. Itโ€™s fixable. Iโ€™m just vaguely disgruntled with the universe and everything in it

Omg that's horrible I'm sorry ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Dear Apps everywhere: stop offering to summarize things for me. Documents, emails, unread messages. I don't trust you.

It's nice to finally have the doors open for fresh air. I've looked for my motivation but it's nowhere to be found so gonna have to pump my body full of coffee instead.

Ugh the place I do contract work for is absolutely pummelling me with new projects to take on. Looks like they've had some staff leave recently. No, I can't do your work full time. I feel bad for ignoring / rejecting the project offers but they are a stop-gap at the end of day, not my full-time gig. They definitely have enough work to hire someone with my experience full time, but it's cheaper to just use the contractor I guess. They also don't pay me nearly enough to take on the extra burden of their staff shortages.

I'm planning to use this situation to my advantage to get a better deal on fees, they obviously need me and I've been working for them long enough now to have some leverage. I've booked a call with the staff manager next week, let's see how we go! I'm becoming more ruthless in business by the day haha. But also, I need to earn the $$.

[โ€“] Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

This is great leverage.

If they keep coming back despite you rejecting project work, that spells it out.

I can't imagine they'd knock back a 15-20% increase. I've been at places that have paid contractors $800 a day because they refused to hire in house talent.

I should note this was exclusively for project work.

Removed because potential doxxing could happen

Tourist in your own state is a great thing to do. I took six weeks long service leave once and just did things from home. Some hobby classes, walking tours, even just visiting as many local parks as I could to see what was there, it was great fun.

That sounds wonderful!

[โ€“] Alamutjones@aussie.zone 7 points 2 days ago

I have been generously gifted $50 to see me through a walletless week

New resident magpie has joined the fray. Either new partner or kid of the existing long time resident.

The old one knows not to come inside. New one just flew straight in and landed a foot away from me lol. Brazen.

It's a male, so probably thinks it can just waltz in and push boundaries. Easiest birds to get out of the house, just don't want it taking a dump inside.

Interestingly when taken (well, walked and it followed) outside, long time resident gave a new call that I've never heard before and pecked it once and walked away lol.

Crazy smart creatures.

Internet outage in Thornbury from late last night. Anyone else had trouble sleeping? I found the humidity really really trying, even though the temp had dropped. Still muggy this morning.

Woke up with puffy face. Thanks, hot weather and humidity, I look like I've been punched in both eyes

Wearing the Dillinger shirt from the tour Greg Puciato wasn't in to the Better Lovers show. People here will know and I'm prepared to get my area kicked for it
