DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin denied the claims that Bovino had been relieved of his duties as Border Patrol ‘commander at large,’ which was first reported by The Atlantic

Border Patrol “commander at large” Gregory Bovino has been removed from his role and will return back to his old job in California, according to reports.

Bovino, who has been heavily involved in crackdowns on immigration across the country, will return to El Centro and is expected to retire soon, a DHS official and two other sources told The Atlantic.

It comes following the recent chaotic events in Minneapolis, in which two protesters have been shot dead by federal agents in less than three weeks. Renee Nicole Good was shot by an ICE agent on January 7 and ICU nurse Alex Pretti was killed Saturday.

Every time I hear his name I can't help but think of a cow, but this guy is full of more bullshit than any 4-legged bovine

[–] Red_October@lemmy.world 2 points 30 minutes ago

I bet when he retires he's gonna take that uniform off. Now that I can't t abide.

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 22 minutes ago

We need to track him down and make his life hell.

[–] crystalmerchant@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

THERE WILL BE ANOTHER SHITHEAD RIGHT BEHIND HIM when the fuck will you people get it. Tear the cancer out at the root

Calling it now:

This is a bid from the GOP to convince Dems to fund DHS and stop the shutdown from happening.

And the dumb ass Dems might actually take the bait and pretend its a victory

Might? It's almost a certainty at this point 😮‍💨

[–] NotASharkInAManSuit@lemmy.world 9 points 2 hours ago

That’s exactly what they are going to fucking do.

[–] jontree255@lemmy.world 8 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Good, but ICE is still operating in Twin Cities and is also targeting to Maine now. The pressure on elected officials to abolish ICE and DHS must continue. DHS funding must be stripped.

Bovino was alway going to be a fall guy and this isn’t nearly enough punishment for him. Jonathan Ross is still at large and the officers that executed Alex Pretti are still out there.

At large suggests they are wanted, minnesota has not charged them still.

[–] TipRing@lemmy.world 6 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

I bet he did Nazi that coming.

[–] hector@lemmy.today 1 points 29 minutes ago

Ties his shoes with little knotzies.

Hey Greg? Why don’t you go back to MN afterwards and walk the streets? See how much safer you must feel, how effective you were that you should put on your SS trench coat and go tour what is clearly just another US state. Should be fine no? I mean you made it safer there right?

[–] extremeboredom@lemmy.world 12 points 4 hours ago

Scum like Bovino don't live with actual risk like the rest of us. The current admin will protect him. He is also wealthy already and after his exit can simply pay for ongoing security by jumping into the rightwing media grift machine. He will shit out a book, do some podcasts and the LEO conference speaking circuit, and never need to worry for his safety like the people he and his fascist organization have threatened and brutalized.

[–] JusticeForPorygon@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Unless he's on some kind of regular protection I wouldn't be surprised if someone in California takes it upon themselves to dispatch of this guy. Unfortunate that he (most likely) won't ever stand trial.

[–] mohammed_alibi@lemmy.world 1 points 24 minutes ago

Are (Paper Towel Brand)'s legal? Asking for a friend.

[–] Hubbubbub@fedia.io 3 points 2 hours ago

He should be fired... out of a canon... into the sun. (That's a "Futurama" reference for those who are likely to overreact)

[–] Bob_Robertson_IX@discuss.tchncs.de 20 points 5 hours ago (4 children)

I hope he lives long enough to stand trial once a same government reemerges. Would love to see this fucker prosecuted and standing before a firing squad.

[–] hector@lemmy.today 1 points 29 minutes ago

You think these dems will take it back?

[–] 100_kg_90_de_belin@feddit.it 1 points 50 minutes ago

You hang them like common criminals, you don't shoot them like soldiers:

Göring made an appeal asking to be shot as a soldier instead of hanged as a common criminal, but the court refused.

[–] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social 8 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

He won't. The border patrol has killed hundreds of people over the years and it's not going to suddenly start mattering anytime soon.

Only reason we know this dude is because he's especially stupid about it, just like his boss.

[–] Manjushri@piefed.social 4 points 4 hours ago

To paraphrase my betters, I would never wish a man dead but I long to read this fuckers obituary. Ah, who am I kidding. I'm wishing as hard as I can for more than a few of these guys shuck their mortal coils.

[–] Insekticus@aussie.zone 23 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

But he only got to use his SS-wannabe coat in one photo op. This is hardly fair.

spoiler/s

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 7 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago) (1 children)

fair

I first read that as flair. As in Trump fired him because he didn't have enough pieces of flair on. Like, Trump was counting and only saw 6 piece of fascist flair, and well..

[–] IamSparticles@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 hours ago

That's the minimum, Greg. Do you want to go through life just doing the minimum?

[–] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social 5 points 4 hours ago

He's worn that shit dozens of times.

[–] IAmYouButYouDontKnowYet@reddthat.com 5 points 5 hours ago (5 children)

Tldr. ...do they mean retire as in his life force being lost?

[–] halcyoncmdr@piefed.social 8 points 5 hours ago

He's going to try and escape responsibility.

Leave the job, go elsewhere for a bit and quietly retire so he's forgotten as the shit continues under someone else.

[–] aramis87@fedia.io 5 points 4 hours ago

He's ... 56? now, and mandatory retirement age is 57, so he was planning to leave soon anyway. This is just him being moved off the board in an attempt to reset public opinion regarding ICE operations and de-escalate the resistance.

[–] Stamau123@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

No, retire as in under a truck

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 3 points 4 hours ago

You know that scene in Iron Man where Tony leaves the one terrorist to the families? "He's all yours."

Just saying, that's a great scene.

[–] Thedogdrinkscoffee@lemmy.ca 2 points 5 hours ago

"He needs to be retired" is not the same as retiring.
