Democrats in Congress erupted in fury Saturday after federal agents fatally shot a man in Minneapolis, with some calling to deploy the National Guard and partially shut down the government in response. Why it matters: Democrats are growing ever more strident in their criticism of ICE, Customs and Border Patrol and other immigration authorities as the Trump administration has used the agencies to swarm cities across the country. All but six of the House's 213 Democrats voted this week against a bill funding the Department of Homeland Security over concerns about a lack of constraints on ICE and CBP agents. The bill passed the House but needs support from at least seven Senate Democrats, who are now under more pressure than ever to block it. "The Senate should reject the DHS funding bill next week until significant reforms are added to the bill. We need a complete overhaul," Rep. Seth Magaziner (D-R.I.) said in a post on X.

Then fucking do it start now before its too late

[–] OshagHennessey@lemmy.world 10 points 8 hours ago

Insincere threats from a party only pretending to be angry.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 6 points 8 hours ago

Good job, House Democrats! You fully funded ICE, and ICE shows their gratitude by viciously beating an innocent American citizen, and then executing him with a firing squad, firing 10 shots in 5 seconds.

That's what you voted for, Democrats.

MAGA has the majority in both the House and Senate. They can pass legislation with their votes alone. Every single Democrat should vote NO on every MAGA legislation, policy, appointment, etc. ANY Democrat who votes with MAGA even a single time should get no support from the DNC, and be vigorously primaried. This is WAR, and they have to take a side.

These MFs right here need to have their phones, emails, and mail boxes full. And they damn well better know if they cave on this, they're getting voted out.

Jacky Rosen (D-NV)

Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV)

John Fetterman (D-PA)

Good job, Turncoats! You fed them money, and they thanked you by murdering an American citizen.

Every one of these MAGAs should be completely ignored by the DNC, and vigorously primaried. If they manage to get reelected, they get fully sidelined, no committees, no appearances on talk shows, no TV sound bites, nothing. They will be invisible, except for their votes, which better be NO on all MAGA legislation and appointments.

[–] btsax@reddthat.com 2 points 7 hours ago

Idk about the others but old Angus just won reelection so he has like five years left in his term, and by then he'll be around 107 years old so I don't think he really gives af

His kid is trying to run for governor though so call him up and ask if being a coward runs in the family

[–] anon_8675309@lemmy.world 3 points 9 hours ago

All talk no DO.

[–] ThePowerOfGeek@lemmy.world 98 points 1 day ago (1 children)

These articles...

fatally shot

The word they're looking for is 'murdered '.

[–] I_Jedi@lemmy.today 27 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Nah.

The correct verbiage is "summarily executed".

[–] ech@lemmy.ca 10 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Executions require crimes, this was just murder.

[–] peopleproblems@lemmy.world 7 points 21 hours ago

Err... That's why we refer to it as an execution. They were federal agents.

He was judged, sentenced for resisting ICE. That's execution when the state does it, regardless if there was a crime or not.

[–] gAlienLifeform@lemmy.world 95 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas) said in a statement to Axios: "This tragic event requires a thorough and independent investigation with full transparency."

However this fuckin shithead is feeling today it isn't nearly badly enough

[–] LordMayor@piefed.social 50 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Isn’t that the guy Trump pardoned? He doesn’t give a shit.

[–] I_Jedi@lemmy.today 32 points 1 day ago

"Yeah, uh, can you guys whip up a PR statement for me? Oh, and make me sound bereaved. The voters love that."

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 24 points 22 hours ago

Oohh, they're furious?

Again?

Yawn

"We're only allowed to give stern warnings by our billionaire donors, but if 100 more of you get shot and die maybe we'll escalate it to an impotent fiery speech".

Damn, living in an oligarchy sucks.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 41 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Remember how Democrats responded to Columbia students protesting Palestine injustice?

But I guess this latest killing by ICE requires more introspection and soul searching.

[–] saimen@feddit.org 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

The democrats are also owned by Israel. Our government is occupied by Israel as soon as the Epstein files drop their leverage is gone. The corrupt politicians and Israel would rather burn our country to the ground than lose their grip on power

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

The democrats are also owned by Israel.

Biden was the beating heart of the pro-Israeli Senate caucus. His elevation to President enabled the Holocaust in Gaza.

Liberals don't want to deal with that, because all they care about is Beating Trump. They'll tolerate any amount of fascism, just so long as their team is in charge

as soon as the Epstein files drop their leverage is gone

That's pure cope

[–] driving_crooner@lemmy.eco.br 2 points 19 hours ago

Joe "if Israel didn't existed we will had to created" Biden

[–] crusa187@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 day ago

This. This is why the full unredacted release is so important, so we can force out all the corrupt sacks of shit the Israelis have kompromat on. It isn’t about ruining Trump, he can do no wrong in his cult’s eyes. It’s about the large percentage of other corrupt traitors in government who have go to go so we have a chance to survive.

The bill [funding DHS without constraining ICE or CBP] passed the House but needs support from at least seven Senate Democrats, who are now under more pressure than ever to block it.

Not saying they will, but the Dems totally could do something about this right now. Call and/or email your senator.

[–] stylusmobilus@aussie.zone 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

call or email…

Good advice for US citizens. Call or email your Senators.

[–] Zaktor@sopuli.xyz 7 points 1 day ago

I've emailed Brian Schatz (who is usually considered kind of weakly progressive but folded during the earlier shutdown) twice before the shooting and requested a response. I've received nothing back and I'm really fucking worried he's going to fold again.

You'd think funding the gestapo right after a public murder would be a toxic vote, but these motherfuckers always seem to weasel their way into doing absolutely nothing.

[–] TheGoldenV@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (2 children)

And just after they authorized more taxpayer money for the Nazis. Boy they must be just the most slightly bit embarrassed.

It’s almost like controlled opposition.

Maybe another YouTube sound bite where you try to make a MAGAt “feel ashamed?” That’ll get us there!

[–] stylusmobilus@aussie.zone 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It is controlled opposition. I think they’ve been threatened and they’re frightened, personally.

[–] Deceptichum@quokk.au 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I think they’re all rich and have more to lose from a mass uprising than they do ICE.

[–] stylusmobilus@aussie.zone 3 points 1 day ago

That’s another distinct possibility, yes

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

It's almost like controlled opposition.

That's Russia talk! I won't hear another word.

[–] SarcasticMan@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago

They won't do shit. They won't risk the paycheck. They won't stand in session and shame these cock suckers for the absolute scum they are. They won't sit in or walk out. They won't stand on their soapbox screaming about justice until their throats bleed. They won't give back the money their problematic donors have given. They won't stand arm in arm with the people being murdered in the street.

They will hem and haw and say everything you want to hear but they will still be complicit. It’s a living, not a calling. At the end of the day, political office is a paycheck, and they really dont give a shit about you.

We are so fucked, it's silly, clown fucking egregious. Good luck out there, God bless, and watch your top knot.

[–] foggy@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

Good thing you just agreed to give them more fucking money you equally traitorous fucks.

All the national guard will do is officially begin the civil war.

Cool.

We never shoulda bailed out the fucking banks.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Every American should be calling their congressional reps regarding the ICE funding.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

One sec, I'm on hold with Dan Crenshaw's office

[–] crusa187@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

You dem dipshits should have thought of that before voting to fund ICE to the tune of billions last week. Controlled opposition my ass, they are simply enablers and should face justice along with the gestapo murder squads.

[–] aesthelete@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

It still has to pass the Senate as far as I know. I find it unlikely that it won't, but maybe if folks pressure the senators enough they can at least delay it. Either way, folks should pressure the shit heel senators.

[–] Vertelleus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 17 hours ago) (2 children)

Modern Democrat congress critters always chicken out. Prove me wrong.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

They don’t chicken out they perform political theater to appease the Israeli lobby and the oligarchs most are bought and paid for. The few good ones have their wings clipped https://www.trackaipac.com/congress
