I avoid AI as much as possible. VR is vital to my life.
Same on AI, though VR I still haven’t gotten much into.
I would get zero exercise if not for beat saber
yea..... yeaaah.
like..... even ai fans dont like meta ai hehehi >v<
I'll probably get a steam frame as my first VR set. I tried out the Samsung one where you put your phone in it ages ago and thought "at some point this will be mature enough I want one". That point probably would have happened already, but I had 0 interest in being forced into Facebook ecosystem.
As a Linux fan, I'm very excited for the Steam Frame, I'm very curious what people will create/do with it, with regarded to the Linux desktop. I'm assuming it'll basically be used like the apple vision pro, as far as viewing and interacting with your desktop stuff goes.
It's been a while since I looked at any coverage of the Vision Pro, but if memory serves, it has a large focus on mixed reality? Steam Frame is very focused on VR and won't do mixed reality well, due to the black and white passthrough cameras. That said. I basically never used the passthrough on my Index, and I'm eager to get the Frame.
They have probably done more harm than good 🤷
Definitely. Any interest i had was immediately gone when they bought Oculus. That was years ago and AFAIK VR is only seeing a resurgence in the past year
They ruined Oculus, glad to see them fucking off!
VR never needed Meta. Us nerds have been trumpeting this fact since before the first Quest even launched and for some reason everyone insisted on relentlessly bickering with us about it tooth-and-nail rather than accepting the simple reality that Zuck Zuck would continue to burn money on his silly venture with creepy knockoff Miis that nobody wants until he finally lost interest and gave up. And no part of that process would result in Meta becoming the "savior" that revolutionizes VR.
Well, here we are. Where's my fucking gold star already? My message has been consistent on this since about 2016.
As long as new headsets continue to be sold by companies, then the software ecosystem can continue building out. Windows Mixed Reality was the worst with how that had such a short life of interest from Microsoft
The Oculus is too tied into being part of Meta's data collection enterprise. I think VR will survive as a niche gamer feature and I suspect companies like Valve/Sony will be the ones iterating the designs.
