Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. 😇 Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. 📽️ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. 📋 Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      ✅ Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. 📬 Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 🖐) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 🖐) will be removed.
  7. 🏴‍☠️ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      Sí, por favor [Spanish/Español]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

I'm so thoroughly baffled by this comic. Can someone explain please T_T

She has a Christian cross on and the wolfman shrimp hybrid is wearing a yarmulke meaning Jewish.

Which is funnier on a whole other level because shrimp are not kosher.

I liked how it's hidden in the second panel by the truck tire.

[–] N0t_5ure@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago

And how the cross is hidden in the 4th panel by the cleavage.

Tbf I feel like cannibalism isn’t kosher either

[–] saltesc@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago (2 children)

It is. Humans aren't forbidden and we'd be considered a clean animal.

[–] Chronographs@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

What if the human ate shrimp

[–] BoosBeau@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

If I eat a shrimp that ate human, would that be cannibalism?

[–] Chronographs@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

If you eat their digestive tract I think it counts (if the human is still in there)

Indeed, here's Genesis 9:3, right after the Quite Big Flood:

Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything.

A joke also used on Futurama

[–] FishFace@piefed.social 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I thought that was just a lump on his head :(

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

It is but it's also a hat

[–] PlaidBaron@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

Part of it was an excuse to draw cleavage, wasnt it?

[–] CanadianCarl@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 months ago

I didn't notice his hat. Till you pointed it out.

[–] mnemonicmonkeys@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Pretty sure he's supposed to be a lobster, not a shrimp

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 months ago

All shellfish are not kosher.

[–] MyTurtleSwimsUpsideDown@fedia.io 3 points 2 months ago

Oh! That makes sense. I didn’t notice it because it was hidden/camouflaged as the truck tire in the first panel.

[–] tkk13909@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 months ago

Ahh ok I see it now! Thank you

[–] eestileib@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 2 months ago

The girl is perfect for him, except that she's christian and he's Jewish.
That's it, that's the joke.

[–] MolochHorridus@lemmy.ml 12 points 2 months ago (4 children)

I wonder why artists so often are completely clueless about the things they make art about. Lobsters aren’t pink when they’re alive. They get the pink colour only after being killed by boiling them.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 8 points 2 months ago

Shoulda been blue.

[–] MiDaBa@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 months ago

He was dead inside

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

There aren't really lobster-headed lycanthropes either

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 0 points 2 months ago

He has a really bad sunburn.

[–] saltesc@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

I'm sure it's fine. Most Christians aren't Christians anyway, especially if this takes place in the States.

[–] YoiksAndAway@piefed.zip 3 points 2 months ago

I feel ya, Zoidbefenrirbubba.

[–] Grail@multiverse.soulism.net 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

A bit transphobic of him to turn her down just because she's wearing the lowercase t transgender symbol /ref

[–] alt_xa_23@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

What does /ref mean in this context? I don't think I've seen that one before.

[–] Goodlucksil@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 months ago

Is the lobster supposed to be Zoidberg?
