Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.
Rules
-
😇 Be Nice!
- Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
-
🏘️ Community Standards
- Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
- Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
- Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
- Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
-
🧬 Keep it Real
- Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
-
📽️ Credit Where Credit is Due
- Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
- Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
-
📋 Post Formatting
- Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
- Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
- When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
✅ Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/

📬 Post Frequency/SPAM
- Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 🖐) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 🖐) will be removed.

🏴☠️ Internationalization (i18n)
- Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,

🍿 Moderation
- We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
- When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists
The following artists are banned from the community.
- Jago
- Stonetoss
It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.
Web Accessibility
Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.
When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:
Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

I'm so thoroughly baffled by this comic. Can someone explain please T_T
She has a Christian cross on and the wolfman shrimp hybrid is wearing a yarmulke meaning Jewish.
Which is funnier on a whole other level because shrimp are not kosher.
https://www.jccmb.com/templates/articlecco_cdo/aid/1339532/jewish/Shrimp.htm
I liked how it's hidden in the second panel by the truck tire.
And how the cross is hidden in the 4th panel by the cleavage.
Tbf I feel like cannibalism isn’t kosher either
It is. Humans aren't forbidden and we'd be considered a clean animal.
What if the human ate shrimp
If I eat a shrimp that ate human, would that be cannibalism?
If you eat their digestive tract I think it counts (if the human is still in there)
Indeed, here's Genesis 9:3, right after the Quite Big Flood:
A joke also used on Futurama
I thought that was just a lump on his head :(
It is but it's also a hat
Part of it was an excuse to draw cleavage, wasnt it?
I didn't notice his hat. Till you pointed it out.
Oh! That makes sense. I didn’t notice it because it was hidden/camouflaged as the truck tire in the first panel.
Pretty sure he's supposed to be a lobster, not a shrimp
All shellfish are not kosher.
Ahh ok I see it now! Thank you
The girl is perfect for him, except that she's christian and he's Jewish.
That's it, that's the joke.
I guess the joke is "stupid atheists want everyone to accept their weirdness but they cannot handle someone having a nice innocent lovely religion" or something.
Shrimp man is clearly wearing a yarmulke. Must be one of those atheist jews we've been hearing so much about.
Isn't an atheist jew just a jew?
The yarmulke is a religious symbol, not an ethnic one. And since Mr Crustacean is wearing it on a date, and not just to temple, he is an orthodox jew. I should have said "atheist orthodox jews", but I was concerned that the commenter wasn't well educated enough to know what that meant.
So what is so nice and lively about Christianity?
~You know, the quaint religion that celebrates, and adorns effigies of, murdering the son of their God and claiming that said murder will save their souls from punishment for their sins (such as murder).~
I think you’re misunderstanding what you’re replying to. The person you’re replying to is critiquing the author for making a joke about atheists not being reasonable, which the author isn’t doing but the person you’re replying to didn’t realize the joke was that the lobstrocity is Jewish, not atheist.
I don't know, you'd have to ask the author of the comic but they'd probably spit out incoherent fanatical nonsense.
Funny. I thought it was you who said:
See, there are these cool things called inference & imagination where we make an effort to guess someone's thought based on their output. Maybe try acquiring an imagination?
Wow. Just wow. Do you even hear yourself when you say shit like that? That I should just make up my own reasoning for the things people say? Did you really just suggest that? Because where I come from we have those people, and they’re fucking everything up for everyone because they think like you. You need to stop and really think about what you said.
Why would they try to imitate you?
It’s a joke about the lobster finding someone that actually loves him in spite of being a monster truck loving lobster man but then they cannot date because he’s jewish and shes christian. I don’t understand how atheism factors in, like, at all in this joke.
It doesn't. The user you reponded to is just a douchebag
A: you're projecting a completely different meaning onto this dumb joke and B: is it not reasonable to reject dating someone who has fundamentally different values and beliefs about the basic nature of reality than you do?
I have plenty of religious friends. But I've also known many religious people who undergo wild swings in behavior based on their perception of what god wants of them. That's not a good foundation for a partnership. I need my life partner and I to be approaching major decisions from the same ontological perspective.
I'm so fortunate that my wife and I lost our faith at more or less the same rate. Shit would have gotten messy otherwise
Is it completely different? Still a difference in faith.
Lol go ahead and tell some of your Jewish friends about Christianity being nice and innocent and see what they have to say about it.
There's a reason so many Jewish people are into boxing...
