I mean I saw a girl wear a Yu-Gi-Oh sweater once and I was like this is gonna be the easiest conversation I'll ever have. I ask her what deck she likes to use and just stares at me like I'm retarded πŸ’€

She wore that sweater cuz the colors/monsters looked cool. I was disappointed 😞

Fuck all gatekeeping. Let people like things even if only superficially. Purity tests are lame, and anyone who tries to test you on how big a fan you are is lame.

Imaginary debate champion.

"We won the game" "We dominated the other team" No bro, you sat at home stuffing your face watching athletes play on TV.

Mitchell and Webb have a bit about this. Mitchell's character gets annoyed that Webb's character keeps talking about how "we beat you in the playoffs." He eventually asks "Hey, do you remember that time WE defeated the nazis and recovered the Ark of the Covenant? That's right, you see, I enjoyed watching the film Raiders of the Lost Ark, and so now I have decided that I was in it, and deserve credit for participation in the events of the story."

(Not exact quotes, I'm paraphrasing from memory)

I think I might have been both people in this image at the same time at one point

There was a guy in my town that used to have a surfboard on the roof of his car. We would always diss him when we saw him driving because he never surfed in his life. He just liked the image of the Surfer's 4x4.

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 6 points 2 days ago

Let him live. He might do it one day, and if he decides to, boom its right there on his car

I see no problem here. (I would be equally horrible to men or women who wear a batman shirt and can't even name 3 of his songs)

I can't take people in sneakers walk like they don't even care about stealth

Looks like I can be super smug. I played basketball and read the comics.

I decided to just go everywhere naked so I didn't have to deal with this crap and people were all like "Do you even know Star Wars? Name 3 Hutts!"

Jabba, Pizza, Sunglass. Easy peasy

I like that yellow bite marks logo, not sure why people keep asking about bats.

[–] myotheraccount@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It's probably bitemarks from a bat?

[–] i_love_FFT@jlai.lu 1 points 2 days ago

Oh, is that from the movie about the teen who got bitten by a radioactive bat and turned into a friendly neighborhood super hero? I loved Jake Gyllenhaal

I’ve had people compliment my t-shirt with the cover of Uncanny X-Men #268, though I got it in Target and there’s probably a lot of people going around wearing it who’ve never even read the issue.

[–] lechekaflan@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Partly because the cartoon series was more accessible than the comic books.

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Yeah, it doesn’t matter. It’s a really cool cover with Wolverine, Captain America and Black Widow drawn by Jim Lee so obviously it rules anyway. When people compliment it it’s like we’re members of a secret society exchanging a handshake, there are so few non-manga, non-french comic readers left.

Sometimes there's also just different interests in the same thing.

At some point I was waiting in line and wearing a Planet Express t-shirt. Someone passed by and made a math joke that I didn't understand. I was confused for a few seconds then realized what I was wearing, replied that I wasn't so much into math, and I just think electric mucus is an excellent choice for the colour of a ship. They seem a bit insulted and we quickly stopped exchanging plaisanteries.

You know, I bet most people only know Chuck for the shoes, anyway.

[–] axexrx@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

For some reason, as a kid, I just assumed he was part of the grunge scene. The name just kind of fits. Like Eddie Veder, Kurt Cobain, Chuck Taylor.... you know, the grunge allstars

They are also big in the lifting scene. And skateboarding.

I think they are just so widely useful that you could associate them with just about anything, including a dude named Chuck.
