Leftism is when you hate everything

[โ€“] LeninWeave@hexbear.net 23 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Any "leftist" should probably hate Jacobin, TBH. They're so bad they were even defending Platner.

[โ€“] blunder@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I certainly did not agree with their coverage there

[โ€“] LeninWeave@hexbear.net 15 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

They've published enough chauvinism and social-democracy that I no longer take them seriously in general.

Someone said Jacobin is the Happy Meal of socialist publication but I think that's a slight against happy meals.

He's been Mayor for like a week and I'm already fed up with hearing about him.

[โ€“] SpookyBogMonster@lemmy.ml 2 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

I Am calling for a total and complete shutdown on Zohran-posting until we find out what the hell is going on

[โ€“] ConcreteHalloween@hexbear.net 2 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

It would be pretty funny if by the end of his tenure he turned out to be pretty fucking based and all his Lib moments were calculated REALPOLITIK maneuvering.

I mean, I HIGHLY doubt anything even close to that will be the case, but it would be a humorous reversal of trends around here.

[โ€“] SpookyBogMonster@lemmy.ml 2 points 16 hours ago

Might take this position up for the bit, tbh

Treats should be forced down treatlerite throat only with anti-imperialism pills, or they just get sugar high and demand more treats. This is treat-solidarity dialectic.

The greatest danger is obamdani delivering treats, and throwing all global solidarity under the bus, for one he is 2:0 on that front, with childcare win and tossing protestors to nypd.

I think a hilarious route for socdem politician to take is to claim inefficiencies in police budget and go after overtime pay, tell them to join ai revolution etc, but oh well brd

[โ€“] sewer_rat_420@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Just curious what you mean "tossing protestors to nypd"

[โ€“] plinky@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I more meant the protect houses of worship directive (which is why they were so far away), gang database stuff and in general keeping that ziolady in charge. Not to mention not enforcing not on our dime arrangements, so that protests wonโ€™t be needed.

[โ€“] sewer_rat_420@hexbear.net 3 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, I agree with you on keeping Tisch, that alone is saying he supports the status quo. Even if the NYPD lightens up somewhat on protestors superficially, as I have seen some people say on twitter (might be wishcasting or cope). I will be interested to see how it progresses.

Also I did see about how they are keeping them away from "houses of worship" which is BS with these land sales. And I still wish he, or any prominent democrat, would point out that the counter protestors were also chanting about supporting ICE and wanting toremoved/kill the protestors.

What are the "not on our dime" arrangements?

[โ€“] plinky@hexbear.net 1 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

The bill (A6101/S606), held by Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani and Senator Jabari Brisport, clarifies that funding Israeli settlement activity and any violations of the Geneva Conventions of 1949 and Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court by NYS charities is illegal. As such, it prohibits NY-based organizations claiming non-profit status from abusing this status to reinforce and further Israeli war crimes.

(from https://www.notonourdime.com/)

allegedly he canvassed on it during primary.

[โ€“] sewer_rat_420@hexbear.net 1 points 11 hours ago

Hopefully he begins to enforce it soon... DSA needs to be stronger at enforcing their supposed "fighting antizionist" plank for sure

[โ€“] InexplicableLunchFiend@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

he's calling the protestors outside the zionist synagogues selling Palestinian land anti-semitic

[โ€“] sewer_rat_420@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Mamdani didn't call them antisemitic. He condemned their Hamas chant, which is wrong, especially considering the zionists were threatening to murder andremoved protesters as well as saying "fuck palestine" and "we support ICE". Saying "We Support Hamas" is an acceptable thing to say especially compared to "I Support ICE" or "I Support the IDF", two actual terrorist organizations. But just to be clear, AOCIA (and every other Dem) were calling them antisemitic but Zohran didn't as far as I saw.

Regardless, his statement on a protest isn't the same as "tossing protestors to nypd" which what plinky said and something I am very interested in hearing more about. I saw tweets anecdotally saying that NYPD was actually less armed at protests since the inauguration, but I would like to know more concrete information when it is available and fear that such statements were copium or wishcasting. For example, is NYPD Counter-Terrorism Unit still surveilling Palestine protests?

[โ€“] john_brown@hexbear.net 5 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

This NYPD? The zionist paramilitary force with offices in Israel? I don't think you need to wonder whether they're still doing surveillance on pro-Palestine protests, protesters, Palestinians themselves, Lebanese, etc. I am 100% confident that they still are and will continue.

[โ€“] sewer_rat_420@hexbear.net 2 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I am sure they are, they have before. I am looking for concrete changes before that Zohran might have pushed for. For example, are they still employing facial recognition drones at protests.

Notice how I said is NYPD Counter-Terrorism unit still surveilling the protests, because they were always present at protests during the Adams' tenure.

[โ€“] john_brown@hexbear.net 3 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Right, and I am saying they are definitely still going to do everything they were already doing, the leadership and priorities of the NYPD haven't changed

[โ€“] sewer_rat_420@hexbear.net 2 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

I definitely agree. The mayor has about as much control over NYPD as they do the mafia

[โ€“] john_brown@hexbear.net 1 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

I imagine that if he attempted to stop them from doing any of the awful stuff they have been doing, the union would be screaming and the NYPD would be doing their quiet quitting strike shit again.

Or they'd just merk Mamdani.

[โ€“] sewer_rat_420@hexbear.net 1 points 11 hours ago

I think his mayorship and its impact on NYPD will best be judged after some time has passed. He promised to cut down (or completely eradicate) NYPD overtime during primaries, so a significant reduction in overtime pay year-over-year is a bare minimum for him in my book.

The bourgeois intelligentsia of the West, like the English Fabians, elevate municipal socialism to a special โ€œtrendโ€ precisely because it dreams of social peace, of class conciliation, and seeks to divert public attention away from the fundamental questions of the economic system as a whole, and of the state structure as a whole, to minor questions of local self-government.
