Mamdani didn't call them antisemitic. He condemned their Hamas chant, which is wrong, especially considering the zionists were threatening to murder andremoved protesters as well as saying "fuck palestine" and "we support ICE". Saying "We Support Hamas" is an acceptable thing to say especially compared to "I Support ICE" or "I Support the IDF", two actual terrorist organizations. But just to be clear, AOCIA (and every other Dem) were calling them antisemitic but Zohran didn't as far as I saw.
Regardless, his statement on a protest isn't the same as "tossing protestors to nypd" which what plinky said and something I am very interested in hearing more about. I saw tweets anecdotally saying that NYPD was actually less armed at protests since the inauguration, but I would like to know more concrete information when it is available and fear that such statements were copium or wishcasting. For example, is NYPD Counter-Terrorism Unit still surveilling Palestine protests?
This NYPD? The zionist paramilitary force with offices in Israel? I don't think you need to wonder whether they're still doing surveillance on pro-Palestine protests, protesters, Palestinians themselves, Lebanese, etc. I am 100% confident that they still are and will continue.
I am sure they are, they have before. I am looking for concrete changes before that Zohran might have pushed for. For example, are they still employing facial recognition drones at protests.
Notice how I said is NYPD Counter-Terrorism unit still surveilling the protests, because they were always present at protests during the Adams' tenure.
Right, and I am saying they are definitely still going to do everything they were already doing, the leadership and priorities of the NYPD haven't changed
I definitely agree. The mayor has about as much control over NYPD as they do the mafia
I imagine that if he attempted to stop them from doing any of the awful stuff they have been doing, the union would be screaming and the NYPD would be doing their quiet quitting strike shit again.
Or they'd just merk Mamdani.
I think his mayorship and its impact on NYPD will best be judged after some time has passed. He promised to cut down (or completely eradicate) NYPD overtime during primaries, so a significant reduction in overtime pay year-over-year is a bare minimum for him in my book.
