I wish foxes were more common where I live. Or, like... At least they werent afraid of people? I'd love to wake up to the sound of fox laughter outside my window.
Foxes are cool, I love seeing them, but that noise they make that sounds like a baby crying / being murdered is unsettling as fuck when you are out at night. Especially when it is pitch black in the woods.
Yeah, the foxes round here sound uncannily like human screams. It definitely is rather unsettling especially when you don't know foxes make that noise.

Seriously, the first time I heard a fox cry I thought someone I loved was going to die in the near future.
You may be hearing coyotes. Check for ACME boxes.
They don't fear people, they just ignore them. I have two around my house.
Do they protect your roof by eating rats and mice? Or they are just as bad and will go for your food and fuck up your stuff?
They are foxes. They hunt or sleep. Raccoons just fuck around to amuse themselves.
