Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. 3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.

Summary:

NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani just signed a set of housing-related executive orders.

  • The city plans to step into the bankruptcy proceedings of Pinnacle Realty, pointing to thousands of violations and complaints as well as money owed to the city. Mamdani said the city plans to "seek immediate relief and improve living conditions for Pinnacle tenants."
  • One new task force, LIFT (Land Inventory Fast Track), will look for city-owned land that can be used for housing, with a report due in 2026
  • Another new task force, SPEED (Streamlining Procedures to Expedite Equitable Development), is aimed at cutting red tape in permitting and approvals, focused on making it more affordable to build and easier to access housing across NYC

Wait, wait, wait...

A company screws up and ruins itself, and the government concerns itself with the PEOPLE who will be screwed by the irresponsible actions of an unaccountable company, instead of socializing the company's losses and leaving the tenants to fend for themselves?

I never thought I'd live to see it happen.

Yeah it's truly crazy to see even the smallest support for regular people's issues.

This is the kind of shit you get done day 1 when you have Lina Kahn running your transition team

Wow, a report due sometime this year?

#1 and #3 sound food, and I understand many things require time. #2 sounds like the beginnings of thinking about a plan stuff that lead democrats to rarely actually getting anything done.

Good day 1. This needs to keep up with week 1 and month 1 culminating in tentpole reforms that are actually rolling out by the end of the year at the latest.

Exactly my thoughts on bullet 2. Is the task force working on other high priority items? Is the city's shit so not together they cannot produce a single list of all properties they own in a week? This is the kind of thing that will fuel anti-Mamdani sentiment.

It's a bold strategy, Cotton. Let's see if it pays off for him.

It's a line from the comedy film Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story (2004)
