Trump has effectively shut down the Kennedy Center for the rest of his term. Maybe he can get Kid Rock to do a residency there. Or he can turn it into something like “Comedy Mothership”, and just have shitty MAGA acts churning through it. Nobody from DC will go regardless, and the MAGA faithful will only take so many road trips to the city to pump attendance.

Good, fuck Trump any scumbags that still support him.

Richard Grenell, the Kennedy Center’s chairman, said in a statement on Monday night that the artists canceling shows were “far-left political activists” and that they had been booked by previous leadership. “Boycotting the arts to show you support the arts is a form of derangement syndrome,” he said.

After Mr. Redd canceled the Christmas Eve concert, Mr. Grenell called it “classic intolerance” and threatened a $1 million lawsuit.

These morons are so delusional, it hurts.

This timeline sucks. This horseshit is a permanent fixture at least in my lifetime.

They aren't boycotting the arts, they are boycotting your kowtowing fake arts center. History is history, not what you want to make it out to be. People are voting with their wallets, just like you always wanted!

Maybe it’s statements like that which push people away?

[–] Soulphite@reddthat.com 21 points 1 day ago

For sure, because the average MAGA voter doesn't frequent venues like this as it is. Their popularity is already nil among those that do, clearly.

These assholes keep labeling normal Americans reacting to Donvict and his awful behaviors as "derangement".

They can go fuck themselves. This idea that everyone else is wrong, but Donvict is right is just Peak Moonbattery. It reeks of the days of the Soviets when they would try to classify any opposition as "insane".

The NY Times didn't call it the Trump and Kennedy Center... He's gonna have another tantrum.

[–] Soulphite@reddthat.com 71 points 1 day ago

Another lawsuit incoming. Wah wah.

[–] pentastarm@piefed.ca 33 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Wait hold on, isn't this the "free market" MAGAts and Republicans claim to worship so hard??

[–] Soulphite@reddthat.com 16 points 1 day ago

Only when is appeases them, otherwise

fuck your feelings!

I wonder how long it will take before it occurs to The Kennedy Center board that restoring the sign to what it is legally supposed to say may also restore people's interest in attending events at The Kennedy Center. But functionally I bet there is a window of opportunity here, as the longer this goes on, the more damage to the reputation of The Kennedy Center will occur. People, performers and audiences will move on to another venue pretty quickly, I suspect.

[–] obviouspornalt@lemmynsfw.com 11 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

It won't occur to this Kennedy center board, because the majority of them were picked and installed by Trump. At best, the Kennedy Center should be considered on hiatus until the current board is replaced. It's unclear that it will still exist long enough for that to happen.

My assumption is that the center will only be able to book bootlickers for the foreseeable future.

[–] Atelopus-zeteki@fedia.io 1 points 11 hours ago

Well, I certainly won't perform there. ;-)
