Health Canada and others should work more closely with their equivalent institutions in e.g. the EU, Switzerland, UK, Australia, Japan, Brazil.

Canada cannot rely on the United States of America, period.
Canadian healthcare institutions are currently married to the bone to US tech companies
If trump decides to cut off internet access, it'll be a disaster
We'll learn about data sovereignty either before that cut-off, or after.
I didn't think Canada did "rely" on U.S institutions. They might work in partnership with them at times, but not "rely".
probably with the CDC/fda on epidemiology, infection, vaccine and clinical trials.
Yeah I was under the impression they were used for very specific cases or when some sort of spike was straining their system. Thats kind of sensible really.
“Institution” in this case means the CDC, drug manufacturers, blood banks and analysis technology, not hospitals or federal health services.
oh yeah. its also sensible to not trust those now farther than you can throw them.
Excellent point, and the Canadian government appears to agree.
We never should have.
Yep. This was long due.
US never gave a damn about healthcare for everybody to begin with, so fair.
The US no longer trusts our health institutions, for good reason, so that’s a reasonable statement. Elbows Up! We’re gonna need help with the regime change.
Canada, you shouldn't. Americans haven't relied on our health care system since Clinton.
The US has health institutions? I thought they'd all been defunded.
US "health" institutions, in name only hereafter.
taken over by worms.
Blood products are the 9th largest export of the US, making up over 2.6% of products.
According to Canadian Blood Services, the demand for immunoglobulin is rising every year, but 70 per cent of Canada's supply comes from international sources - mostly the U.S.
Although there is no current shortage of immunoglobulin in Canada, the current political climate of protectionism in the U.S., coupled with the "dramatic" demand projected to increase about 10 per cent each year, could put the supply at risk, said Dr. Graham Sher, CEO of Canadian Blood Services.
Medical products are also Canada's 9th highest import from the US, to the amount of almost 6 billion dollars in 2024.
Medical devices are also a huge US to Canada sector.
The Canadian market presents significant opportunities for U.S. exporters of medical devices, with the United States being Canada's largest trading partner for this sector. Total imports of medical devices satisfy approximately 70% of domestic demand. In 2022, the United States was the largest exporter of medical devices into the Canadian market, totaling US$3.2 billion, representing 42.6% imports in this sector.
Canada should start opening up to EU or Mexico. Imagine Mexico's healthcare and Canada's healthcare working side by side. They would be unstoppable.
