Nah those people were dumb obviously but they still had the wherewithal to put the smartest man alive in charge of fixing everything.
In our world they'd burn him at the stake for even thinking he was smarter
I hate that movie and get upset whenever people act like our current foolishness is the same as the movie's stupidity. It's a motivated ideological rejection of reason, not a lack of ability.
I think of it in terms of the worst possible combination of Huxley and Orwell, but sadly this works equally well.
