Soulslike - Discussion, News, Memes

This is a community for discussion, news, and memes pertaining to the video game sub-genre "soulslike".

Given Lemmy's size, the definition of soulslike may be treated relatively loosely. While games like the numerous FromSoft titles, the recent Star Wars Jedi games, Lies of P, Nioh and similar games should be the focus, games that incorporate soulslike elements - like Hollow Knight and Blasphemous, for example - may also be discussed here.

Basic Lemmy-quette applies. Additionally, since flairs don't exist yet, please do make sure to include a marker to denote what game your post is about in square brackets for clarity's sake. An example could be:

[BB] This enemy is so difficult!

or

[DS1] Anyone struggling with the gargoyles?

I'm on my way to finishing my recent Sekiro playthrough that I started on PC. Just got to Fountainhead and killed that lightning enemy that prevents you from going into the water and am currently on my way to [Redacted] to get the final necessary item for the true ending of the game. Might do another run after that where I go for the evil ending. >:]

I've got lots of merch actually, and it's hard to pick a favourite piece. None of it is official, but I have a few standouts. The hoodie in the thumbnail I got from my fiancée as a Christmas gift along with an awesome Hunter's Mark zip hoodie that she made herself in addition to a quite spooky Orphan of Kos shirt she got from the same site as the hoodie - will share pics soon. :)

Apart from that, in terms of clothing, I've got three Bloodborne shirts I got off Redbubble of Laurence, Gascoigne, and the Abhorrent Beast, as well as two Sekiro shirts that I love a lot. That should be it.

I also have a self-made brooch that looks like Sophia's brooch from Lies of P that a friend of ours made two of: one for her cosplay and another for my birthday a couple months ago. And my fiancée made me a lamp that looks like the roundtable hold table with iconic weapons from the game instead of the usual regular swords.

My favourite is probably the roundtable hold lamp. I use it every day whenever I sit at my desk and want a small light to give me comfort and not burn my eyes out. It's quite nice. Will have to get some rechargable batteries for it somewhere down the line, though, because it's on quite often and eats through batteries relatively quickly, I could imagine.

Enough bragging :P What do you got to show off?

I don't have anything official, but I have the replicas I'm doing myself. Messmer's helmet and spear, (and rest of the costume for cosplay... which still need a tonne of work).

I want to do Artorias full armor, a legion arm from Lies of P, and Malenia's helmet as well.

I'm probably gonna play Elden Ring or Nightreign but I see Sekiro on sale so.... Maybe it's time??

Also...

Fiancée

Aaahh Congratulations !!! ~(つˆ0ˆ)つ。☆ ♡

"Hunter's Mark zip hoodie that she made herself" ... "made me a lamp that looks like the roundtable hold table"

Prime wife material right there!!

Yoo these look so cool. I hope you'll share the final results once they're ready :) Which Legion arm will it be? If I had the time back when I cosplayed P for Gamescom, I probably would have gone with the basic one Maybe the Puppet String one since I've used it quite often.

It's definitely tough to get into at first. It's very different from your average soulslike. However, I'd imagine you'd be fine playing through it if you got through Lies of P relatively unscathed. Some bosses feel a lot more bullshitty, some a lot less.

Tyyyy :) 💜✨

ikr? :P Finally I can say that for real :D

Sure, I'll share some pics once the build is done or closer to completion!

For the legion arm I'm deciding between, Fulminis (sp?) or Flamberge Because they feel not as complicated construction wise and they are not very bulky or detailed, but both designs are really cool. Even though I didn't really use them in any playthrough. XD.

The ones I did use all feel they'd be too complicated... But Maybe Icarus? we'll see.

Just finished Code Vein and enjoyed it. Might go back and get the different endings. I was unsure about the game, but I got 40 hours out of it for like $10 and it was pretty memorable with some good boss fights. The character customization goes pretty deep and I'm proud of my character, a little antler bee girl with giant... Zweihander

My only piece of soulslike merch is this Tunic plushie I received a few weeks ago. The sword and shield are magnetic. I have already accepted that once I get cat(s) the accessories will become their toys.

How does Code Vein stack up to your average soulslike? I haven't heard too much about it beyond the anime aesthetics. What's the gameplay like?

And that Tunic plush is so cute :)

Pretty well I'd say. The levels felt similar to Remnant 2. Combat, too. The class and "gift" system gives a lot of customizability that I didn't fully embrace due to bonk build, but I think there's a lot of replayability with different styles. Besides anime aesthetics it has a lot of story which you may love or hate. Most bosses were solid though it's possible to over-level or rely on your optional ally to make it too easy sometimes. Overall I'd give it around 7/10, definitely worth a play if it's on sale.

I've been a pc gamer for the past 13 years, but decides to get a ps5 to play some exclusive ps4 and ps5 games as well as have some physical copies of games I really enjoy. I picked up all the Dark Souls, Elden Ring, and Bloodborne today and have started playing Bloodborne for the first time and it seems pretty neat! I love gothic and lovecraftian horror, so this is hitting a sweet spot. Shame the framerate and resolution are relatively subpar.

I don't really have any cool soulslike merch, but the copies of Dark Souls III and Bloodborne I got came in generic cases, but I managed to find some custom cases online to replace them with. Looking forward to having them on my little blossoming game shelf.

You're in for a treat - enjoy!

You gotta share the custom cases, dude!

[–] lablakelydoink@slrpnk.net 1 points 30 minutes ago

Wasn't sure what the rules are for linking to that type of stuff is here, so the powers that be can remove this if it's against the rules. Worth mentioning I have no affiliation with these sellers or anything like that.

Bloodborne custom case - big fan of the PS1 aesthetic

Dark Souls III custom case - it looks alright, nothing too special, but still cool

Have fun, good hunter!!!

Oh man enjoy Bloodborne, that first playthrough is so excellent in so many ways

I just beat Lies of P for the first time. Chose the wrong ending and let Gepetto make me a real boy. Without spoiling, some stuff happens that I'm not happy about but most of all by siding with him I skipped the actual final boss and can't go back to fight him.

I'll probably do a NG+ but I bought Silksong day one and haven't touched it yet and I've been putting off the Elden Ring DLC for far too long.

Did anybody else think Lies of P was fairly easy compared to most, the general enemies were not hard after you've killed like 3 and learn their moves. The bosses were interesting but I usually used the specter after my first death to a boss and I don't think it took me more than 5 attempts for any of the bosses.

[–] v4ld1z@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 hour ago

I actually struggled quite a bit with many of the bosses, and that's after getting a platinum trophy for Bloodborne and Sekiro. Good on you!

[–] GrantUsEyes@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 hours ago

I agree, base game bosses are easier to learn, they don't gave that many moves compared to FS bosses. Dlc bosses harder, but not by that much untill the very end... holy fuck final boss is a tough fight. Regardless of difficulty it's such a fun and well crafted game, combat is super satisfying and the story has more depth than I expected going in. I loved my time with it.

Lies of P had some challenge but it certainly is not as hard as Fromsoft games. Swamp boss and the armored lightning lady gave me some trouble. I did the same thing with the ending, and woo buddy that true boss on new game plus was pretty rough. The DLC is a much steeper challenge overall, and is well made. If you liked the main game then the DLC is a good time, I enjoyed a lot of the new weapons in it too.
