Soulslike - Discussion, News, Memes
This is a community for discussion, news, and memes pertaining to the video game sub-genre "soulslike".
Given Lemmy's size, the definition of soulslike may be treated relatively loosely. While games like the numerous FromSoft titles, the recent Star Wars Jedi games, Lies of P, Nioh and similar games should be the focus, games that incorporate soulslike elements - like Hollow Knight and Blasphemous, for example - may also be discussed here.
Basic Lemmy-quette applies. Additionally, since flairs don't exist yet, please do make sure to include a marker to denote what game your post is about in square brackets for clarity's sake. An example could be:
[BB] This enemy is so difficult!
or
[DS1] Anyone struggling with the gargoyles?

Just finished Code Vein and enjoyed it. Might go back and get the different endings. I was unsure about the game, but I got 40 hours out of it for like $10 and it was pretty memorable with some good boss fights. The character customization goes pretty deep and I'm proud of my character, a little antler bee girl with giant... Zweihander
My only piece of soulslike merch is this Tunic plushie I received a few weeks ago. The sword and shield are magnetic. I have already accepted that once I get cat(s) the accessories will become their toys.
How does Code Vein stack up to your average soulslike? I haven't heard too much about it beyond the anime aesthetics. What's the gameplay like?
And that Tunic plush is so cute :)
Pretty well I'd say. The levels felt similar to Remnant 2. Combat, too. The class and "gift" system gives a lot of customizability that I didn't fully embrace due to bonk build, but I think there's a lot of replayability with different styles. Besides anime aesthetics it has a lot of story which you may love or hate. Most bosses were solid though it's possible to over-level or rely on your optional ally to make it too easy sometimes. Overall I'd give it around 7/10, definitely worth a play if it's on sale.
