TL;DR:

Alberta has the same issue as Texas. Well....lots of the same issues as Texas.
In terms of power grid:

Private generators
Private transmission systems
Private Distributors
Private everything means little to no incentive to modernise the grid or properly interconnect it to ensure the grid is stable under heavy load.
