Hey everyone!

Because of how Mastodon and Lemmy are spread across multiple domains, I made an app for Android to help make following shared fediverse links hopefully a bit easier.

Mastodon/Lemmy Redirect has support for most Mastodon and Lemmy instances, and lets you choose which client you want the links to open in, even if that client doesn't support deep linking. It needs some initial setup because Android is very much not built for one app to have so many deep link domains specified, but it should be easy on Android 11 and later.

Both variants are free and open source and there's support for a bunch of clients already. I'd love to hear your feedback on behavior/UI/new clients/whatever.

Right now, downloads are available through the GitHub releases tab. I may put the apps on the Play Store, but I don't think they'll be happy about all the deep link domains.

Let me know if this isn't a good place to post this and I'll remove it.

Was literally wondering if there was something out there to do this earlier today, ha. This is awesome, great work!

Any plans to submit to the Play Store? Saw you mentioned it might be against a policy, but could still try I guess?

There's a lot of overhead (description, feature image, screenshots, policy forms, etc.) for submitting a new app to the Play Store and I just don't have the motivation right now for something that will probably be rejected.

No worries! I definitely get it, coding everything and getting it out there is the biggest thing. Maybe sometime down the road!

Thanks for the App!

I should probably post this as an issue on github but pressing the "Enable using Shizuku" doesn't seem to do anything whatsoever - am I supposed to get some kind of UI feedback? Shizuku is running, but even after pressing the button it still shows that there are 0 links that are opened in Lemmy redirect

Can you post it on GitHub with more details about your phone, OS version, etc.?

I also experienced this issue. Without shizuku, I would need to enable hundreds, if not thousands of links, which is too much.

Edit: A clean reinstall fixed the issue.

Last I checked the lemmy redirect did not work with sync. Are you planning to implement that in the future?

[-] wander1236@sh.itjust.works 4 points 11 months ago

Sync can't handle deep links yet. You can select it, but Sync will just throw a "TODO" toast.

Looks interesting, but was a little too complex of a setup for me to figure out. This requires the installation of other 3rd party apks, and the documentation is pretty sparse about how to set them up. There's also not many screenshots or a guide to quickly help figure out the value proposition.

I might take a look later in time when the app and ecosystem are better established!

Very interesting, thanks for this.

where do you get your list of instances from?

The readme on the repo has my sources.
