Soulslike - Discussion, News, Memes

This is a community for discussion, news, and memes pertaining to the video game sub-genre "soulslike".

Given Lemmy's size, the definition of soulslike may be treated relatively loosely. While games like the numerous FromSoft titles, the recent Star Wars Jedi games, Lies of P, Nioh and similar games should be the focus, games that incorporate soulslike elements - like Hollow Knight and Blasphemous, for example - may also be discussed here.

Basic Lemmy-quette applies. Additionally, since flairs don't exist yet, please do make sure to include a marker to denote what game your post is about in square brackets for clarity's sake. An example could be:

[BB] This enemy is so difficult!

or

[DS1] Anyone struggling with the gargoyles?

In a post on social media, CI Games’ CEO and the head of the studio, Marek Tyminski, reverted to his rhetoric about games needing to avoid political agendas. He stated in clear terms that Lords of the Fallen 2, slated for 2026, will feature ‘attractive female characters’ wearing ‘revealing outfits’.

"Many of you asked why the game initially had body type A/B. Hexworks started early 2020 as an autonomous studio owned by CI Games. Early on, political correctness and filtering meant not every decision reached me on time. I got a lot more involved from late 2024 and now act as Head of Studio alongside my CEO role. Things are very different now and the studio got fully integrated. We reverted a lot of wrong decisions and will continue improving. Lords II is being built on real player feedback, and it’s crystal clear in the last two trailers."

The comments under that post came from curious fans, and one user asked, ‘I’m gonna buy the game, definitely. Will there be attractive female characters, and will there be revealing outfits and armor for them?’ Marek simply responded, ‘Yes’.

When another fan pointed out that games should be fun and not ‘politically correct’, Tyminski wrote, ‘Correct’.

Early in 2025, Tyminski appeared on social media rebelling against forced DEI in games. He backed up a statement made by CI Games’ marketing director, which suggests that the studio wouldn’t shoehorn DEI elements into their games just to tick that political agenda checkbox.

So I guess that game's not gonna be played then lol. What a pos CEO

What those assholes always ignore is that it isn't about revealing armor and sexiness, but about the attitude behind it.

Baldurs Gates 3 has sexy characters and even sexy times in it and I can't remember seeing anybody being bothered by it, but instead celebrating it. So eat shit, you backwards CEO.

If the sexy character is a dirty slut and that's believable and fits in the story then there's no issue.

If the character is wearing a g string with EE sized water balloon tits and always taken seriously then it's an issue. Because it makes no fucking sense.

I take gstring wearing sluts very seriously and maybe you should take this moment to work on your biases 😤

This is hilarious. "I don't want games to be political, therefore we will feature half-naked sexy women."

The reboot lords of the fallen wasn't even any good. Stopped playing halfway through.

Man, what a shame. And it's not even about what is said in the title. I've nothing against attractive female/male/enby characters in revealing outfits. It's a false dichotomy between "fun" and "diverse". Elden Ring is a GOTY banger, where you can create anyone you want, change your gender during the playthrough as many times as you want, and play even naked if you like. And the fan-favourite boss is literally a disabled person. Nobody gives a shit about that or A/B body type. Street Fighter is a game where almost every character regardless of gender is sexualized, and sometimes it goes too far in exploiting kinks, yet it includes lots of queer and trans characters.

"Sexy" and "diverse" may go hand in hand if you wish. And denying that means you're just a bigot, and your game is made for right-wing populist audience i'm not a part of. I actually defended the first part and still think it's a decent game, but not buying the sequel unless they change their mind.

Yes because when I think about a good game I think about a game in which the CEO had Direct creative control over. Surely that's going to be an awesome game. It's not political by the way. Even though it sounds explicitly political and is using political dog whistles.

Ugh... I just fucking said the other day they should lean into the unique aspects of the game for the sequel, and instead are going to lean into the edgy, teenage, angst while adding incel bait because the CEO is an anti-woke fuckface. 😮‍💨

[–] TrousersMcPants@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago

Yeah they clearly can't make a good, original game, so they're just appealing to the dumb assholes who will buy games just because they "aren't woke"

[–] v4ld1z@lemmy.zip 3 points 4 days ago

I'm sorry :x

What unique aspects?

The game fucking sucked. /Opinion

The irony of claiming games need to avoid political agendas, to then talk about A/B body type being "a mistake" lol

I guess it's just the corpo pendulum swinging back from "if we include a gay character thats progressive right? Right???" to "if we include sexy characters they won't say we're woke right? Right???".

Maybe some day they will understand that ultimately people just care that the game is good. Though I guess controversy is marketing, and not enough people will care to not but a game over some dumb comments to offset that.

Though while I'd never heard of the game, I certainly won't be buying it now. But I suppose that means not shutting up didn't lose them a sale since I wouldn't have known it existed otherwise.

[–] GrantUsEyes@lemmy.zip 14 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Thankfully I've never felt enticed by this franchise in any way, so I've never given them money.... Are these games so weak that they need objectification to secure an audience?

And the comments about "political correctness" forced DEI, XD such trash takes, almost comical. I hate that covert hate speech talking points keep getting normalized.

[–] v4ld1z@lemmy.zip 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

🤷🏻‍♂️ feels like it a little. It's definitely crazy how many garbage CEO takes one single year can contain

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

It's practically in their job description. You must get some kind of bonus by demonstrating you're out of touch at a professional level

[–] ZeroHora@lemmy.ml 11 points 4 days ago (2 children)

I don't know if this comm have Lords of the Fallen fans but to me this IP always played like people who want to make games but don't understand games and this new statement just validate my thoughts

[–] optissima@lemmy.ml 8 points 4 days ago

This is what seeing reactionary thought looks like in game dev if I had to guess why

[–] v4ld1z@lemmy.zip 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

There are some fans here who have voiced their liking the game. It is a cool premise, in theory

[–] froufox@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 4 days ago

Yeah, that's me, i like the first game. But utterly despise a stance of their CEO

[–] Sanctus@anarchist.nexus 10 points 4 days ago

Yikes, thats a shame too. They had something with that reboot. What it needed was not this.

[–] pressedhams@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 4 days ago

All I want is a caked up muscle man in even more revealing clothing to compliment the t and a.

[–] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 5 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Video game people can be so freaking weird

[–] theunknownmuncher@lemmy.world 24 points 4 days ago (3 children)

It's conservative men, not video game people. Remember when they were raging that the green M&M is not sexy enough anymore because she is now depicted as wearing sneakers instead of high heels?

They do this weird shit to literally everything.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Obviously that's just M&M People, the scourge of the snack world

[–] RickyRigatoni@retrolemmy.com 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

What's wrong with wanting fuckable candy

[–] JackbyDev@programming.dev 2 points 3 days ago

Sneakers can be sexy.

[–] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 3 points 4 days ago

Yeah you're right. It's just hard to escape them in video games

[–] mushroommunk@lemmy.today 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Some* video game people.

Don't lump all of us in with those neck beards.

[–] apotheotic@beehaw.org 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

They said can be, you don't need to "not all gamers" this

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

It gets tiresome to see folks have their "gamers are pig people and deserve no respect" cake, then try to eat it by being critics of individual releases.
