If you find an injured owl:

Note your exact location so the owl can be released back where it came from. Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitation specialist to get correct advice and immediate assistance.

Minimize stress for the owl. If you can catch it, toss a towel or sweater over it and get it in a cardboard box or pet carrier. It should have room to be comfortable but not so much it can panic and injure itself. If you can’t catch it, keep people and animals away until help can come.

Do not give food or water! If you feed them the wrong thing or give them water improperly, you can accidentally kill them. It can also cause problems if they require anesthesia once help arrives, complicating procedures and costing valuable time.

If it is a baby owl, and it looks safe and uninjured, leave it be. Time on the ground is part of their growing up. They can fly to some extent and climb trees. If animals or people are nearby, put it up on a branch so it’s safe. If it’s injured, follow the above advice.

There could be some upset people here for this one! Saw Whet, returning champion, win a very tight battle against the king of owls, the Blakistons in the last moments of that match. Little Owl won by a more significant amount, but the fans of the unusual Milky Eagle Owl were not thrilled with that outcome either. Both of these owls are tiny and cute, but they've stepped on a lot of toes to get here. I wonder if that will have an effect on the results of this match?

Saw Whet's charm and little round shape really helps against the large majestic owls, but how is it going to do faced with another tiny and cute owl? The Little also brings a pudgy round shape and a bouncy attitude. Let's look at their differences.

Saw Whet is about 7 inches (21 cm) tall and 75-100 grams. It lives in coniferous forest of Alaska and Canada, and some remote spots in the United States, and the migrate south to the US or Mexico in the winter. They just love a used woodpecker nest as a house. Their favorite food is mice. They have a very charming "poot-poot-poot" call. They have reddish to dark brown plumage, yellow eyes, black beaks, and feathered legs and feet to stay warm.

Little Owl is a tiny bit larger, around 8 inches (22 cm) tall, and a comparatively husky 180 grams. This owl is not so much a fan of chilly weather, living in temperate zones of Eurasia and some semi-desert areas of North Africa. It likes orchards, hedgerows, parks, rocky areas, and even occasionally treeless sand dunes. These guys do not migrate, so males are territorial to protect their hunting and nesting area. Unlike the nocturnal Saw Whet, Little Owl is partially diurnal, so it can be seen doing owly things during the day. They also have a more varied diet, about half mammals and half insects. It's call is a little more basic, a repeated "kiew kiew" sound. Little Owl is brown and spotted up top, and brown with streaks on the bottom, yellow eyes, and a yellow beak. It's got longer legs, though no feathered feet since it doesn't hang out in the cold like Saw Whet does.

So we have the Saw Whet as a sleeker, less social, nocturnal owl that migrates and loves meaty meals and has a special song to sing.

Little Owl is a rounder burb, hangs out closer to people, doesn't hate some sunshine, stays put in one spot its whole life, and has some pretty vanilla bird calls.

I don't know if that helps any, since they're still both beautiful and quirky birds. I think Saw Whet's appear to look more different than each other and Littles more uniform in appearance, so this is probably going to come down to who do you think looks cuter. Let's see those opinions now! Upvote your choice below.

Little owl looks like someone just patted it on the head and it absolutely hated it.

I also don't like being pat on the head, nor hanging out in the cold. I do like a relatable champion.

It's tight, but I feel the vote total is lagging a little. We may have some people taking their time to think this one through yet.

Sorry for the minor delay! I thought both posts were ready to go, but SW/Little I just had the title set up before I fell asleep 😅. So it does take about an hour per post for this stuff.

I wanted to give you that last pick of the Little Owl in the desert and the Saw Whet doing its little dance I thought evened out the cute factor with the Little's head tilt pic. I try to make it as tough a choice as possible, so if I find one really cute pic, I have to be sure to find something equally as cute for the competition!

If the Saw Whet looses, I will choke somebody.

Edit: Looks like good old threats of violence still work. Noice.

Knowing when to delegate out tasks is a highly overlooked skill. I hope she picked a winner.
