Its really not the christians no. They are just useful idiots. The real driver of this legislation is the AI and tech companies that are desperate to create markets for their useless tools. And thats not speculation. The people pushing chat control were found to have direct ties to the companies building the tools to enforce it.
palinitir has been desperate to be implemented by every govt agency, they know thier AI bubble is about to pop, probably not earning money. they are trying to get the us gov to pay for it.
I get "AI bad"... but I'm not sure I'm following this one. How does porn websites having age verification help AI products find a market?
All these websites have been using image recognition models on both their users (to estimate age) and actors (to detect CSAM). The latter is fine because the data is already public, but the former is a gross privacy invasion. Especially because there already was and will always be leaks and breaches that then expose peoples faces or ID pictures which allows scammers to steal everyones identity.
There are technically secure ways to verify someones age, but there will always have to be a third party that you have to allow to extract identifying information from your ID to make those work. These companies however dont even try to preserve peoples privacy and have been going straight for using AI tools to magically verify their users.
I love that people all the time try to bleach christians from all the bad things they commit all the time.

I'm not going go remove this (and no one's reported it) because religious trauma is real and many religious institutions haven't done themselves any favors in tackling this problem. However, please avoid generalizing any religious group of people here, especially with such a severe accusation.
Edit: If you have thoughts on this, let me know. I aim to allow for the maximum gamut of viewpoints while still fostering a community where opposing ideas can meet, even clash as long as there isn't collateral damage. I'm open to input on how to best do this. The downvotes don't tell me if I said too much or didn't do enough.
"Age Verification" is just another form of censorship that the "religious right" are trying to use to censor the freedoms of US citizens. They have failed time and time again in making adult content illegal. This has been going on since the 80's. It's been a huge battle. The Meese Report has almost 2000 pages of this agenda. This is just one more way that they are trying to remove your First Amendment right, and force people to comply with their religion.

Edit: I'm Canadian. Technically, the first amendment to our constitution was forcing the Hudson's Bay Company to give us Rupert's Land.

let me guess it was the same dem that tried to repeal net nuetrality in 2017, it was always the same DEM/DINO everytime. oh and its not really about protecting children, its about surveillance and giving data to palintir to sniff out political dissdents(anything against right wing authoritarianism), CCP does the same thing, except they one-up the west in doing it.
