Executions should be public and brutal. Not because of the right-wing fantasy of deterrence. Because the public should have to witness what's being done in their name.
The purpose of "Humane" executions carried out behind closed doors is to ease the suffering of capital punishment supporters, not the victims of state violence.
Any medical professional involved in these executions should have their licenses promptly revoked.
Even if we ignore the contradiction of "do no harm" and then assisting an execution. The data is there, these executions just look peaceful. In reality they are incredibly painful. It's cruel and immoral.
A shotgun blast to the face would be more humane. If we want to go chemical just slam them with anesthesia followed by a fuck ton of morphine.

Drug companies making morphine and anesthesia drugs won't sell to prisons for exactly this reason. They don't want to be associated with the death penalty.
Of course the only time a buisness grows a conscious it leads to more human suffering.
Unfortunately as long as the death penalty is the law the state will do it. I'm a proponent of making it less cruel and hopefully outright banning it.

i wonder if they are even using medical professionals to do this, just someone with "medical training", i doubt a nurse or doctor would risk thier licenses getting revoked.
The people who insert the IV are largely not medical professionals. Only after the fact are medical professionals involved to declare the inmate dead. They are largely just staff who have had “training” in phlebotomy. That’s why probably that there are so many botched executions. FWIW, I am strongly against executions. Partly because of how many innocents are executed. But also because it’s inhumane. How the fuck is it not unconstitutional?

Given that they've tried to execute this guy at least 4 times and he's still alive I'm going to say that the expired drugs don't work.
That's a. interesting legal precedent that csn be made. He underwent the capital punishment already, the state failed. He complied with his punishment. That's why civilized countries don't do this.

Everything else aside, the expiration date thing is almost certainly a non-issue since the vast majority of drugs are safe and effective even decades after they expire.
The most humane method is Nitrogen Asphyxiation. Since we already breathe a 78% nitrogen atmosphere, as the concentration rises, and the oxygen level (19%) decreases, our bodies handle the increased concentration easily. Instead of getting nauseous, or a headache, or hallucinations, etc, you just get tired, fall asleep, and die, with no other symptoms at all. It is a fast, peaceful, humane, and efficient way to kill any living creature. And since it doesn't require any medications or injections, no doctor needs to be involved, and violate their oath.

Evacuating the CO2? That wouldn't have anything to do with it.
For one thing, the executions I've read about used masks around the nose and mouth, which I would think would be very prone to manipulation by the victim. In any case, there is no way for CO2 to build up.
That would take a chamber, which they aren't using, as far as I know, but even if they were, it would take hours for CO2 to build up enough to have even the slightest effect. A chamber would work the best, allowing the room to fill with nitrogen, which the victim has no choice but to breathe, eventually. Within a few breaths, they will be unable to stay awake, and they will fall asleep forever, suffering NO ill effects along the way (other than death, of course).
Reports of "agony," thrashing, etc. is all just prisoner theatre. Of course many of them are going to play it up for sympathy, this is their last moment on the stage. The actual fact is that nitrogen poisoning is about the most tranquil death there is. People die from it every year, and there has never been evidence of the victims suffering any death throes. Universally, they all appear to have just fallen into permanent sleep.

The descriptions of nitrogen poisoning are well documented in both the scientific and medical communities, and they are at completely at odds with those descriptions. I have never heard of any other death by nitrogen that fits anything close to that. Just the opposite.
That means either the authorities screwed up in applying the strategy, which is definitely possible, considering how incompetent they often are, or the prisoners were acting, or both, which is probably the likely answer.
If a person is sealed into a tight space filled with nitrogen, they won't have any other symptoms, other than sleepiness. No thrashing, no seizures, etc. That is simple scientific/medical fact. If those descriptions are accurate, then they are indictive of another problem other than nitrogen. I suspect the mask that they are using isn't flooding their systems with nitrogen as thoroughly as is required, causing the body to fight back.
Stick the person in a small sealed chamber, fill a small container with liquid nitrogen, which evaporates at a rate of 695.5 to 1, and it will fill a chamber like that VERY quickly as it evaporates, displacing ALL the oxygen, and putting the victim to sleep in only a few breaths.
