"Republican health plan" == Pay cash or die

I'm sure Republicans will honor their promises. Oh, look at the price of this bridge...

[–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

The only promise they made was that they would vote on it. They didn't say they would vote for it.

I wish there were some way for the damage to be limited to Maga and the Republicans.

Our insurance and medical expenses will go from $3.5K this year to at least $11K next, and that's with few medical problems. We could easily hit $20K if care is actually needed because co-pays, deductibles and max out of pockets have more than doubled and actually quadrupled in some cases. We do not have that kind of money lying around and our spending on other things is going to come to a halt.

If you think the economy is slowing because of Trump's tariffs, foreign export collapse, resulting unemployment, Federal employee layoffs and government shutdowns, wait until this explosion of medical costs hits people's budgets. I won't be the least bit surprised Trump and his ilk cause another Depression.

My god, man. Have you even considered the quarterly shareholder value that will be made???

Is there, though? The subsidies were government dollars going into private insurance companies in the marketplace. It’s not that insurance rates are skyrocketing, it’s that the government is no longer chipping in. Some people are no longer going to be able to afford insurance, which means lost subscribers.

With less than a week to go before the cut off date to make a decision on my healthcare for 2026, I'm looking at having to make the decision to go without health insurance. Regardless of how things go, putting off a bill like this whether it's a definitive NO or some concession to extend the tax credits until a few days before the deadline when citizens have to make a decision is just plain wrong.

Meanwhile we have now just 9 doctors left in the country and the new ones are leaving.
