Every UN vote is essentially always US/Israel against, Nato sphere of influence (the amerikkkan empire) abstains, everyone else is in favour.

This repeats, over and over.

Oh wow all the colonial "countries" too cowardly to vote against. Abstaining is voting against you fucking colonial cowards.

Death, taxes, and the US and Israel voting no while Europe abstains

real question: why even vote against it? why not just vote for it, since it's symbolic anyway. then sit back and dare the world to call us holdings or isntrael 'colonies'. If it is symbolic, and seeing how voting against ends up making the US and isntrael look bad, is there like a concrete reason to vote no?

IIRC the reason that the US and their puppets give is that it would be giving Russia and/or China a PR win, just like the resolution against nazism that gets blocked every year.

[–] Collatz_problem@hexbear.net 16 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Isn't US voting against an even bigger PR win for Russia?

[–] cfgaussian@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 4 days ago

It is if you're not a Nazi. The problem is that the West is run by Nazis and as such pathologically incapable of realizing how this looks to the rest of the world.

This vote exposes the duplicitous nature of the South African government. It votes against colonialism, yet it encourages the killings of white South Africans and the looting of their farms. White genocide helps the black majority to get rid of evermore white people and to settle on their land as if it was never theirs. This is not justice—it's colonialism.

Grokk who gives neck better? Musk or Kirk?

The way I was actually ragebaited for a second there

[–] nothx@hexbear.net 23 points 5 days ago

what gets me here is that an "international day of X" does fuck all in the grand scheme of anything. So on one hand, who fucking cares? On the other hand, the US and Europe cant even feign support for the symbolism...

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 26 points 6 days ago

Wow, this (UN vote on vaguely good thing that is purely symbolic) sure reminds me of every other (UN vote on vaguely good thing that is purely symbolic)

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 24 points 6 days ago

Ah, Abstention. A “no” vote for cowards.

[–] vegeta1@hexbear.net 19 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Even Argentina on it and these Westerners can't bring themselves to do it i-cant https://usun.usmission.gov/explanation-of-vote-on-un-general-assembly-fourth-committee-resolution-on-the-international-day-against-colonialism-in-all-its-forms-and-manifestations/ ""Third, this resolution absurdly calls for the pursuit of reparations based on flawed historical guilt narratives" What flawed? hitler-detector

[–] UmbraVivi@hexbear.net 18 points 6 days ago

I don't get why they vote no even on something purely symbolical and completely inconsequential.

[–] la_tasalana_intissari_mata@hexbear.net 15 points 6 days ago (1 children)

how the hell did Argentina vote yes, is Milley Lacking?

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 13 points 6 days ago

There's a lot of things in LatAm that even Milei's people aren't unwise enough to say.

[–] buttwater@hexbear.net 14 points 6 days ago

Well we know which two don't get to sit with anyone else at the UN cafeteria

[–] theuniqueone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 6 days ago

Typical US/Israel blatant opposition to basic stuff and much of Europe hedging their bets.
