If you find an injured owl:

Note your exact location so the owl can be released back where it came from. Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitation specialist to get correct advice and immediate assistance.

Minimize stress for the owl. If you can catch it, toss a towel or sweater over it and get it in a cardboard box or pet carrier. It should have room to be comfortable but not so much it can panic and injure itself. If you can’t catch it, keep people and animals away until help can come.

Do not give food or water! If you feed them the wrong thing or give them water improperly, you can accidentally kill them. It can also cause problems if they require anesthesia once help arrives, complicating procedures and costing valuable time.

If it is a baby owl, and it looks safe and uninjured, leave it be. Time on the ground is part of their growing up. They can fly to some extent and climb trees. If animals or people are nearby, put it up on a branch so it’s safe. If it’s injured, follow the above advice.

How many saw the other one?

[–] anon6789@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Fuzzy little baby was easy, but momma has had lots more practice being invisible!

The third one took me forever to see

I just see an eye and even knowing there has to be an owl around that eye, I just see the eye and wood. 😵‍💫

One of these may or may not be the same from a different angle. They're all recents from his photo stream. It's not baby owl time, so they're all old pics, so I dunno.

All cute though....

Just mamma and one baby visible here, unless I'm missing something 🧑‍🦯

Nice! I've got them then. Although I almost the little one.

I had the utmost faith in you. You've been a steady presence here for quite a long time now. You are well versed in the way of the owl by now, I'm sure! 😀

Thanks ! I just realised you posted yesterday the first round of the superbowl. It is late now but tomorrow morning, I'll have to share it with my family who want to play. It is going to be lots of fun (^_^)

[–] anon6789@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Yup, the warm-up is going on now! Very curious to see the owls everyone is taking an early favor to. As usual, I tend to favor a fair number of different owls than you guys do!

Do you use alts to vote for them? I don't care if it is for legitimate votes and not just someone spamming their favorite or something like that. Or heck, just tell me their votes and I can add them in. You have been a very good person here with me for a long time now! If they're playing every year, they should get their voices heard.

[–] pseudo@jlai.lu 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I have enough alt to do it my self. Don't bother. But thank you very much for the offer (^_^) And don't worry, I never use them to cheat on the vote. I want my favorite to won fair and square!

I knew you had a couple, and you've been nothing but a constant benefit to this community in my eyes.

Thank you. You're too kind. This community would not exist if it weren't for you <3

It is tough keeping it up at times, and if I wasn't surrounded with you all being friendly and funny, it would be significantly harder still!

Plus no one wants to just watch some crackpot talk to themselves in public every day, you guys being present and participating makes them actual conversations instead of the ravings of a mad bird nerd.

Spotted the eye on the right immediately, but the fella on the left genuinely made me jump lol
